That HiLifter looks sweet! Not what I'm looking for though.

To muddy the waters a bit, I looked at a Maverick. Nice looking machine, and a lot less utilitarian than the commander. Didn't get the dimensions though. Also, what would these be like to tow on a little flat deck behind a 35' 5th wheel? Assuming the 5th wheel has a decent hitch lol.

I have the 1000 XP and love it. Fun machine and haven't had a problem down any trail yet. Thought it was going to be to wide but no. Went from a quad.

900 rzr Xp is the one, the 800 doesn't have the power, the 1000 is to big physically. The Can am Sxs have a tendency to overheat but moving the rad and drilling a hole in thermostat would likely fix that, The Teryx looks decent but I have never seen enough to make a decent conclusion. Everything else is avoidable, Viking and pioneer are to wide, the cat has linkage problems and the single dumbest tie rod placement in the history of off road vehicles.

It's 1" wider and 11" longer, I would test drive both before you shell out the cash. I was going to buy the 900 then tried the 1000 and this answered my question,no comparison, I ended up with the 1000. less upgrades needed.

My brother has a commander 1000 rides great lots of power but I'd make sure to get power steering especially navigating tight twisting trails, inlaws have a teryx and interior just looks cheap and plain and uncle has a ranger 800 it seems under powered and top heavy my vote goes can am all reliable but I like can am the best seems like higher quality and great power

Couldn't agree more, Ron. I, too, was a little concerned about the physical size of the 1000 when I bought it. Now, 500 miles later, I have absolutely no regrets. The fun factor of this machine far outweighs any negatives....Wait ! There aren't any negatives !!

I got the chance to drive a Commander last week in B.C.. They are a nice machine with decent power, but I'll keep my RZR 1000. The Commander is much noisier in the cab because of engine placement and also gets a lot hotter in the cab, again, because of engine location. The clutching is much more performance-oriented in the RZR and the RZR's suspension is superior. These are points that both the Commander owner and I agreed on. The Commander has more storage and cargo capability as well as a more utility like seating position. The RZR 1000 sacrifices in these areas to achieve the goal of ultimate performance. Both are great machines, depending on your intended use.

Ya the commander is definitely more of a work horse than sport ride but we use ours around the farm a ton where a rzr or maverick would be useless just nice mix of both worlds and as for rzr they look like a great machine just never driven one so can't comment on it

Are the polaris 800s a bad engine? I have a ranger 800 that has been good to me but man it sounds awful. My brother is thinking of a rzr 800 but wondering if a guy should steer clear of them. Anything in particular to look for or avoid?

deaner, the Poo 800 is a great engine. Absolutely nothing to worry about. I know a number of people running these with thousands of miles on them.

Have a 2013 commander 1000 XT great machine lots of cargo space, very happy with it , lots of power when you need it, stock tires are all around good, except in deep mud, they dont clean out easy. As stated above it is a utility vehicle but is also a blast on the trails, yes it is noisy, but i dont hear a thing when on the trails, (lets the wildlife know i am coming ) for a utility vehicle it has a phenomenal ride, between the Ranger and the commander probably share top spot for utility performance, No brand bashing here, there are other brands that are coming out with some very nice machines, in the side by side class, They all are racing for top spot and suspect we will see some great changes in the next few years,... EG: Highlifter Edition Razor.

On open trails the 900 or larger is going to be pretty entertaining. Any brand will do, What fits your purpose and riding style is up to you. 800's are good also kawaski teryx 4 seater, AC 700 trail cat will give the 900's a run for there money. So much brand bs on here, a recommendation is useless

You'e so full of s **t, bring that 700 cat out there an prove to me that you'll give the 900 a run for its money

I have a 2011 900 xp and I love it. I run it at home out sand tires on it for the dunes. And tracks for the winter. Never had any issues whatsoever

I have a 570 and it's great goes everywhere I want to. Doesn't have the azz pucker factor tho like the 900 or 1k. I don't get into trouble it's very predictable can giv'r down trails at 65-70kph and not feel out of control and it can fit in your pick up truck. Think 900 50" would be great but could be tippy with that much jam don't buy an 800

How many hours or kilometers is high for these engines? I have 3700km and 270 hours on my ranger. Sorry for the highjack lenny, just seems like a great thread.

Same as lenny , I have been snooping around and for the difference in a used one to new I think I will go new.
Just a bit nervous with the used as it is hard to tell if it has been sunk or filled with water at sometime.

The price most people want for there used stuff you are almost better off with new. Not sure why guys ask so much for there junk.

PS do SXS go up in value when used, like the XMs?
