Shorten Throttle Cable?

Hey guys need some advice.
Dropped my handlebar setup 3" and now I have a little excess slack that I need to address.

I believe this is causing the bend radius to be a little to tight and doesn't allow the flipper to come back smoothly.

Is there a tool to cut the cable down?
(Replacement T part that clips into the flipper? )

Whole new shorter cable?

Or should I take off the hood and get creative rerouting it to take up some slack?

I know there is a kit to make cables. Years ago dirt biking I broke a clutch cable and a guy made one for me at the camp site with a kit he had. But I have no idea where he got it. But I am assuming you sled is a mountain sled? Maybe the trail version might have a shorter cable. Or run it a different way in the sled.

Yes there is, i have used them in the past. If you go to a powersport aftermarket supplier he will be able to set you up.
The kit consist of a new outer casing, case ends, cable and a cable end. You basically use what you need to shorten the cable and braze the end. Easy, i've done a few in the past.
Or if you do enough research you might be able to find a cable that will fit for your application off another model.

Can a guy get at the throttle body to replace the cable by removing the air box silencer? Or what's the easiest way?

Why? ...a TPS has no idea how long your throttle cable is.

I just figured if your free play of the cable was out of whack, or if the cable held the throttle open a bit in a certain spot? Was just thinking out loud!

I just replaced my cable 2 days ago, slid the air box out and had lots of room to work.

yes you do need to get it the tps reset, you need to set the throttle free play then makes sure your throttle opening percentage is at least 95% full open. You can replace the throttle cable but it won't be proper

I dropped my xm 3", haven't had any issues for 2 yrs riding. You aren't trying to run the cable through the riser are you? My slack runs before the bar pad.

That's pretty much the exact same setup I have. 3" knucks and 2" boondocker bars.

Took it for a rip and when you pull the throttle to the bar and then release it , it very slowly comes back and then comes to rest at about 4400 rpm.....

I am gonna try and route the cable a little differently to try and take up some slack and increase the bend radius.

I think that's why the cable is hanging up because of the bend radius into the hand throttle.

Although mine is only at 6" and not 5" like yours, this is how mine is. Then I have my bar bag covering the cable, not sure why the website always turns my iphone pictures.

hate to be the guy to bring up old threads from the depths, but my sled is now doing some funky stuff too and i suspect the throttle cable is to blame. has anyone swapped their throttle cable to a shorter one and had success? i went from the stock 8" riser to a 4" with 2" cfr bars. im debating trying one from an mxz or similar like was mentioned above but will have to do a side by side comparison to be sure.

I'm surprised if it's a cable issue with only dropping the bars 2". Don't tie the cable to anything or run it through a riser just let it loop around and down the hole in the console. Maybe try lubing it since it looks like your sled is about 5 years old now.

Yeah I was surprised too. Haven't really heard of too much issue like that before.

Thanks for the number! I did some searching on the doo parts lookup and didn't find that number, but I did find a few others, took those numbers to the dealer the other day and compared the different cables. Turns out the 512060668 ($77) is the better option. 512060667 ($77) was my other number but its about an inch longer than the 668 and 512060851 ($120) is what was on the sled and another 1.5" longer again. So the 512060668 is about 2.5" shorter that the factory cable and definitely cleans it up a bit but it could probably be another inch shorter too. Waiting till the snow flies and ill give it a shot.
