Rv tire pressure monitoring systems.

Anybody have experience with any of the tire monitoring systems that can be installed on an RV?

We had a little incident and would like to know before the rubber starts flying again!

I bought a set for my class A a few years ago and had problems with them, so I returned them. From what I have read since on rv forums buy a good set and they are worth the piece of mind. I never did buy another set. The ones I bought were like the B Qtech ones in your post and about the same price.

Honestly I just check my mirrors to see if the tires have gone flat. IME trailer tires are more prone to blowouts than just simply going flat.

Some of the bigger trailers, like my 42’ 5er, you can’t really see the tires in the mirrors. I’m 8’6” wide and I do the jerk left, jerk right when it’s clear on the highway to have a peak. I’ve wanted to get a set for a while but think I’ll buy an 8 tire monitor for the trailer and truck. The 3500 GM’s don’t have tpms sensors.

You have good eyes to see the rear tire on the passenger side on a 38 foot toy hauler! It was still pulling like a dream, I might not have noticed If I wasn’t watching that mirror because I was passing on a single lane and was watching to see It was clear to change back into the right lane. I checked pressure before leaving home and she blew less than 100 k down the road. Thinking back on the trip there were a couple things that make me wonder if it ruptured a lot earlier then later blew apart. I felt a minor tug and heard a clunk around a slow corner early in our trip, and Later saw a little something fly up from the tire area but think I had an issue.

If I have a next time I would like to know instantly and possibly prevent a bunch of damage.

My truck has sensors. Not sure if it has any alarms or alerts if you hit a minimum pressure or have a rapid loss like the some of the units are advertising.

But I’m still thinking about a unit that can monitor a lot of tires. Thinking of buying a basic kit for the rv then extra sensors for the enclosed possibly even a dump trailer that sees some heavy weights but that one usually has shorter trips.

A few weeks ago I was at work at Fernie Rentals and filling a propane tank for someone from Alberta and he showed me is blown trailer tire. What a mess. He was more than glad that it didn't cause anymore damage

I use this brand, after seeing the aftermath of a blown tire on a triple axel 5er at woodys.... they had to take the entire side off trailer from blown tire and grandpa didn’t look back!
I like my TPMS, it shows temp as well which is interesting to watch as u go thru mountains in 36c weather. The only pain I’ve found is u need to pull batteries out of sensors at end of season to prevent them going dead over winter.

I run 8 sensors, 4 on trailer and 4 on truck.

I am thinking of a system also. 2 things I saw this year. On my tri axle toyhauler. Tires where 3 years old.

I did my brakes and bearings. Saw a funny bulge on inside of 1 tire. Took all 6 to tire shop. They recommend only 1 new tire.

2 trips latter arrived at rig street at mid night.

In the morning noticed one front tire had a funny rounded shape.

Took tire to Sundre they said belt let go and I was lucky it never blew driving.

Be good to know what tires are doing. I can’t see them way back there.

Don’t have a spotter like Nascar.

I was thinking I got off pretty lucky for damage. The inside of the wheel well is all lined with metal, mainly the rim and cosmetic trim.

I got my parts quote today for repairs.


Rv dealer is a rapist!


- rim, plastic fender skirt and the smallest length of the curved siding behind the wheel, plus freight to the dealer. Pretty much $1000. And 8 weeks wait.

Doesn’t include a new tire yet or fixing the other tire that got impaled with steel belting.
