Look for some ribbons hanging in the trees right on the rail line. There is a trail into the bush (it is in there a ways). It is hard to explain but you might find it.Palmers cabin isn't much of a cabin.Looks like a old shack about 10' by 10'.Should be doing a ride out there again probably Aprilish

Medler,
You know how to get from the cabin to Saunder's ?????? I went west from the cabin once and got to the gravel road that come down from the hi-way. Boy that was fun because of some fenceing of private property but made our way thru some bog and made back to the railline by the gravel road. Try to continue west from there but ran into a huge ravine and couldn't find the way around it. (Plus it was the end of a day of riding).
Man, I can't wait to ride the west country in 2010 !!!!!!!! Hope I get out a few more times better than last year !!

Dale;
The gravel road you speak of is called the "Baker Rd." or some call it the Jackfish lake (south) Rd. Once you come out on the road follow it toward the hwy. until you see the power pole with blue marks on it and black arrows. Follow trail in (a ways) to a 4 way , turn right at this point and follow the blue marks with black arrows. This is the hardest part of the whole trail plenty of muskeg and in many areas trail is not marked well, it can be a challenge to get to Misty Valley, once there it is a breeze.
PM me your e-mail and i'll send you my GPS tracks, that should help out alot. Also let me know when you would like to go and hopefully i can come out and show you the way.
This whole area you speak of has been a big problem becuase of the large amount of private property and leased land (with animals), also on the crown land there are many washouts (along the river) that are next to impossible to get around, so the trail that i have got around is (at the moment) the best way around.
I hope this helps you out.

Hadster,
I know that there are a few guys going out on The April 17 and 18, doing the Horburg to Nordegg and back the next day ride. I am trying to get the time off (it sounds like I will) so if you (or anyone else) want to come out that weekend that would be great !!! The guys that are putting it together are on the "Outlaw ATV Club" site so check it out !!!

Does anyone think this would be a good idea again this year ??
Missed last years adventure, if we start planning now it just might work out for me to go. How many other guys are interested in doing a fall ride ?? Either the end of this month or in October or even November if the weather stays mild.
Hope Hadster can still show us some of the historical stuff in the area !!

I have been thinking about, the same thing in the last while. It may work out for me in October (maybe mid to late). However again this year things have happened and i haven't gotten out as much as i would have liked to, there are trees down in many areas, and alot of the soft areas are really getting spun and torn up.
There is always a way to get around (or through) the bad spots, just takes a few extra minutes.

There is one closer to the Horburg end of the trail, and another right at Nordegg inside the "off limits area" between town and the minesite itself.

Hey everyone on this thread, I'm looking at doing this ride early next year with a few friends and I was wondering what the avg travel time is, I've heard it takes 8 hours to get to Nordegg from Rocky, is that true?

You can do it in seven but thats a pretty good pace with few stops.

Yes that's about right very few stops, go hard and of course know excatly where to go.
Normally on the way there it will take 10 or more hrs checking out all the landmarks and sights etc. and having lots of breaks and lunch.
