Why is Kenny removing the caps on power and insurance?

Not a good move IMO we have been at the max on the 6.8 per KWH already.

I use to run on floating but saw that we have been maxed for the last 4 months at 6.8. Switched to locked in for 4 years to 5.xx. Hopefully it pays off haha

The caps on insurance that the NDP put on was not a good idea and with Torte law in Alberta you can sue for Injury's that have driven the losses up to where the payouts are higher than the investment. Insurers are not getting any return here, and with the cap they were showing losses on there investments with all the injury claims. They either increase the rates or pull out of the province simple as that. In other provinces with different laws there are caps to payouts on injury's, Alberta its an injury lawyers jackpot.

I have a truck registered in BC. The liability amount that it is covered for by ICBC is $200,000. I guess in that province it is enough although in Alberta most agents tell you you should have $2 million these days. Under insured or over insured, which one is right?

Both the insurance and electricity industries need to have a government mandated external audit performed. Neither industry is transparent and both seem to have a lack of competition and where a choice is available to consumers, there doesn’t seem to be any difference between providers. They both reek of collusion.

Conservatives have always been about free market this is as surprising as finding beer on a brewery floor. When people are surprised in cuts it also makes me laugh province was spending to much and we have to make cuts from the most expensive parts of the budget education and healthcare. He’s trying to cut taxes to stimulate the economy with big business the issue is federal policy has there fingers in everything and driving investment away. Alberta is in a tuff spot he will try to use what he can but only one thing hurts Ottawa and that’s not having Alberta.

I'm all about the free market but when the government forces me to have insurance to go about my business, seems to me that they should try to control the costs abit for Joe blow instead of worrying if manulife only profits 10 billion a year?

or is that crazy talk?

insurance companies are in bed with the government.

it's kinda like if they said if you want to eat, you have to eat fast food 3 times a day.

but you got choices! there is Wendy's mcdonald's, dairy Queen ext ext.

and then all of a sudden every burger joint in town is charging 150$ for a 3 piece and a soda.

how is that a free market?

government bails these companies out any they make a bad move. insurance has got to be one of the biggest scams going IMO

I used to selling life insurance and got out of it because it was too slimey of an industry for my liking.

Oh ok, I must of missed something than. So your saying the alberta Govt has been subsidizing the power and the insurance companies???
I understand the cuts to the public services and IMO public services should not be unionized, but I don’t understand the removal of the caps.

I have read there could be a hike as high as 25% for insurance for car and home.

Just wait for the power hikes that will be coming like they’ve seen in Ontario...could be over $600 a month for an average house. Insurance costs are a mystery to me, get a quote pay the bill and get on with your life, if you ask for an explanation you need a translater.

Seems a few wanna be hypocrites here....Can’t have it both ways, either free market conservatism or left wing socialism.... as a business owner I’ll take choice A.

I think some people dont understand what a free market is.
insurance and power companies in canada look nothing like a free market enterprise. it's heavily regulated and subsidized industry. making a few people very rich and the rest of us poor.

Power grid $$$ floats based on demand that I believe resembles free market one of the SAGD plants up north that generated 160mw had live readout $1000 per megawatt peak and as low as next to nothing during normal times. I have to agree you are forced to have liability insurance through the government but that also protects me from your screw ups. They don’t force you to have theft fire or collision the things that likely only affect you. We’re the ndp not subsidizing power to get off of coal?
