For those that have personally replaced their stator on their 800 etec. The manual says you need to lift the motor. Is this for real? I think it was to access the port where wires come through. Seems a little over the top to replace the stator. Don't have the sled home yet to confirm for myself. Just trying to figure out how much work I'm getting into this weekend.

No you don't need to unbolt and lift the motor. It is a pain in the ass to get the rubber grommet back around the stator and trigger wires and zip tie it nicely. Take the intake boots out and you can do it, even easier with the clutch tower out of the way

So I pulled magneto and found sleeve worn. See pic. Is this common? Can I buy just the sleeve. It's a 2013 xm. Should I be worrying about crank at this point? I have 0.007" runout on PTO side but may have been like this since new. Never measured when new.

.007" is a lot of runout. Spec is .0024 I think measured on v-blocks.

Yah it's definetly more than preferred but from what I am hearing certainly not unusal. After closer inspection looks like the sleeve came loose and moved toward the block wearing on various components including stator wires and engine block. Can't believe it didn't catch fire. Apparently it's common for this sleeve to come loose. Have seen couple examples already. Way worse than mine. Would still like to know it I can get this sleeve replaced locally as the guys I spoke with was repaired on ware entry and they don't really know what went into repair. If I remember correct Parts fiche doesn't indicate it as a separate part. Would like to get this year out of sled without full rebuild

This worn sleeve appears to be very, very common issue. Took apart another one this weekend from a friends sled that showed no signs of issues as far as sled run ability, only to see the same thing starting to happen to his. He has approx 3000 km on his. The 2015 sleds came with an updated flywheel, I would have to assume it's for this issue, mor clearance maybe? If you have a 2013 or 2014 800 etec, I would seriously recommend removing your flywheel and checking for this wear, otherwise you will be spending some serious money on flywheel and stator like me. I have taken 3 apart to date, everyone have the same issue.

The sleeve is inside of the flywheel. Does it start? If so you might need to get it scanned by DOO.

Yeah it starts!

Had the same error when it was new. Same symptom also. Got a new stator on warranty. Now its out of warranty so im gonna pop the flywheel and replace the stator.

Yah. Ended up having buying new complete flywheel (bs imo) and since mine wore the stator quite a bit and the wires I was out a flywheel and stator. Ouch! Not cheap. If you catch it early enough I think you can get away with flywheel only.

The sleeve looks fine but its loose. Is it supposed to be attached to the flywheel or is it the magnets thats holding it in place?

If this is on a 13 there was a service bulletin issued about the flywheel not being glued properly and separating like that. On my 13 they replaced stator and flywheel on warranty. Might be worth asking if this is on a 13

Yes it is a 13!

Should be able to glue it then! Its way out of warranty (only 2 years in sweden) so i better try and fix it myself.

Should use a glue that can withstand some heat.

Changed sparkplugs today. The dealer said i should replace them after 10000km. Mine is at 4000km. They were worn out! The gap was like 4mm
