I just went through the hassle of registering my sleds and now have the big yellow stickers to put on them. I really do not want to do this because they make a nice sled look fricken lame especially if you take the time to polish your tunnel. What have you done or would do?
I registered them because I know that the RCMP sometimes check sleds out and if you don't have the decals on and in your name you get a ticket and no riding for you. This has happened to a friend of mine in Wells near Barkerville. I atleast now have a piece of mind that all the paperwork is done, i's dotted and t's crossed.
Now to insure them, yike$...lol.

How did you get registration without insurance or is BC different that way? Most BC locals I've seen just deal with the big yellow sticker. I don't think theres any way around it. Maybe you could put it on the tunnel under the seat or does it need to be openly displayed?

I just went through the same hassle. Sled had never been registered by the previous owner. I don't want to put the ugly sticker on either. I'm curious also what everyone else is doing.

In BC we can just register our sleds, you need insurance to cross any road and of course other things as well but not for registration.

LIke you, I wont drill holes in sled for our Licence plate. I keep it in tool box?
why not roll it up and keep in tool box yourself,or stick on windsheild.

The more I look at the users of Snow and Muds sleds the more I seenot alot of yellow stickers displayed. I do see some with the numbers nicely decaled on the hood or side panels. Some are done so well you can't evn notice them. hmmmmmm......

Mine is displayed openly, on the underside of my hood when I openly open it.. Just have your paperwork with you and I don't think they will hassle you.

Yeah, know what you mean about those darn FUGLY decals especially after polishing a tunnel!! My hubby and I didn't bother putting the decals on our sleds, just carry the paperwork with us at all times.....In Wells I know they can be sticky, we haven't been stopped yet but know others that have. NO WAY we're putting the decals on but as long as you have your registration papers to show them in case, you should be ok. But you never know I guess.

I keep my plate and paperwork with the machine but never ever have stuck it "on" the machines. Never been hasseled.

most cops are pretty good about it as long as you have all the necessary docs with you to provide to them when asked.... IF your sled has serial numbers visible. I know a couple guys changed to CR tunnels so they had to put the stickers under the hood at least the cops told them. "The sticker had to be physically attached to the machine". I put my plate in the nose of my sled where my shovel use to go. it all depends if the cop got his morning donut or not really!

Rumor has it that the RCMP in the se Kootenay's are gonna start checking sled registrations at the staging areas.

Don't know if it is to identify stolen sleds or if they are finally enforcing the required registration for a tax grab. There is a high percentage of BC sleds that aren't registered and that number is higher the closer to AB border. The sticker is $15 but the PST portion of the HST is 7% making it a healthy touch ($700 +).

Under the hood or seat, or inside a side panel, sounds like a great idea. But then again, if it is to remain on the sled for the life of the machine the side panel or the seat may not be such a good idea.

I don't like the big yellow sticker, nor doo I like paying the extra taxes....maybe it's time to doo what I tell my grand children, "Suck it up Princess!"

PS an extra thought, how's the sticker to show through the ice and the polished tunnel is would be nearly half hidden.

I've been sledding for a lot of years. The only time I remember being checked for registration was when I was returning from a trip with my Dad when I was about 13 or 14 years old. That's over 40 years ago(OMG!) Anyway, I've always registered my sleds and paid the "GD" taxes but it it Pi$$es me right off that we are required to reg our sleds but no one ever checks. The way sleds and quads are disappearing you'd think that they would be asking everyone at every parking lot and trail head in BC to see the registration papers. The words "Tax Grab" were mentioned....NO $HIT! That's all it is. I've presently got the stickers on both my sleds but next time they're going in a plastic bag and put in storage on the sled until I'm told otherwise.

I have both my Wifes and my sled registered[its only $10] but I do not have those big ugly yellow decals on either sled.I have never been checked in the past 11 years all the local cops are busy at Timmys or under suspension for assault

in bc - i've been checked at the stagging area at forrester before. i had 2 sleds at the time and only had the paper work for 1. he gave me a ticket (pretty minor i seem to remember). he told me that all he was really looking for was stolen sleds, and that if i could fax him something later that had the serial number and my name on it he'd throw the ticket away. it was more work to dig out the old registration and fax it to him (as it was registered at one time) than to just pay the fine, so i paid it. my plate was in my backpack and he didn't give me a hard time.

however in alberta - i've been check a few times at Cataract Creek. each time i've had all my paper work in my pack and they give me a hard time and say the plate needs to be mounted. have never gotten a ticket, just a hassle. i still dont have it mounted.

well thats kinda lame, us albertans have to get insurance before registration, tho i suppose its good idea in the long run, especially if sumone makes off with your sleds..... i keep my plate/papers in my backpack, and if you had to have your big yellow sticker out where its visible put it on a piece of plastic and zip tie it to your backpack......i sure as hell wont be drilling holes in my sled...

Was checked on Sunday at staging in the Hummingbird,,,, Not rode yet,,,, plate and papers in seat,,,,,, was told that they are getting more sticky on the plate being mounted in sight,,,, I had kicked it off on a wild ride not long before and didnt want to loose it and pay for anouther,, still looking for a good place to mount plate on sleds so they dont get nocked off by me or renters,,,, hmmm

I got caught at the old toll booth on the coq about 10 years ago. I had #s painted on with the painted hood i had on and papers but no decals on the wifes sled and was fined $50 each.

Maybe they should put more effort into preventing theft of sleds than bothering people about not having a plate mounted to the sled. what a FN hastle. and when was the last time they cought someone riding a stolden sled in the backcountry.
