Maybe they should put more effort into preventing theft of sleds than bothering people about not having a plate mounted to the sled. what a FN hastle. and when was the last time they cought someone riding a stolden sled in the backcountry.

and if there are riding it... they probably have no idea it was stolen.

Checking for plates gives them a convenient excuse to check if the sled is stolen. Maybe they'll get a few stolen sleds back, or at the very least spook some people out of buying stolen sleds.

If they didn't check for a plate what would they do?

there were 2 rcmp on sleds at the boulder cabin over the weekend. we chatted a bit with them and neither of them asked about any paper work for our sleds.
