Real life feedback on new 1 ton Fords or Chev/GMC's?

When mine was stock it was still decent on fuel, except for when it was in regen of course. Best average over 100km empty I ever got was 9l/100 hand calculated on hwy 1 around brooks.

Have a 2016 Duramax. Consistent small interior squeaks and rattles. Fix one, another pops up and I don't just have a bad truck. The spot where the driver's seat meets the hard plastic at your left leg squeaks on all the new ones in the showrooom. Some worse than others. Ridiculous. Won't buy another. Fuel mileage is great.

Had a 2017 L5P duramax and I love it. This is my 5th 1ton GM and it’s definitely my favourite so far. No it doesn’t ride like a half ton but it’s still considerably smooth for a 1ton. Lots of power and I find it pulls nice and smooth �� would recommend

I do love my 16 Chevy 3500 SRW. I have 80,000kms on it, the only issues is a slight rattle in the dash somewhere.

Jim, don't listen to any of these guys who compare an old truck of one brand to a new model of another unless you yourself saw no improvement from your 06 to your 17. They are all becoming very nice trucks these days and they all are very good quality. My 08 GMC was a big disappointment compared to the Dodges I have owned but I'm sure they are better now?? Some are $5k+ more than others so figure out what that price difference buys you. Also is there is a Ford dealer and a Dodge dealer in Nelson so the decision comes down to 2.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Greatly appreciate it. Will start doing some test drives over the next while and see what we end up with. Like the mileage of the GM's, massage seats on the Fords as my wife has a bad back, and the Cummins of the Dodge plus the redesign coming in 2020. Price will be a factor if it turns out to be significant on an apples to apples comparison.

Exactly. No excuse on a $90k vehicle. If warranty can't solve it, I would sell a vehicle based on a rattle.

you must of got a lemon as I have the same truck and I find it the opposite with no issues on the interior.

Silicone spray my friend . Little touch here and there and all good.

Been a real Cummins fan since 2007 Dodge 3500 Megacab 5.9L and suffered through the Dodge crap that comes wrappped around it. Had a few more Dodge 1 ton diesels since then and starting to look at options for a new truck within a yesr or so. Any feedback on new alternative brands for diesel 1 tonnes? Comments on features that have impressed or been disappointing? Reliabilty? I really like having a good exhaust brake but could do without ongoing rear diff issues... thanks!

It didn't appear your truck was being much of a slouch on the way home from Revy :)

For you, here are a couple of things to consider, You can't get a megacab with any of the others, you can't put much larger tires on a GM product with its square wheel wells without a lift, as Chris mentioned, dealer availability being in two cities a lot can be helpful.

When I bought mine I drove all three. GM still found it rougher like my previous GM's but its torsion bar isn't a smooth as the coils, Ford I was surprised with the way the power came on but even in a Lariat it felt utilitarian and clunky inside. I had driven the Ram a lot more having drove on to Idaho and it was just more comfortable to me.

I wish there were larger aftermarket fuel tanks available for the Ram's. I do not know if you can get one for the GM or Ford either but something in the 180-200L capacity would be nice as the Def tank takes up some space. Did GM relocate theirs with it being right behind the right front tire?

Just went to my first GMC in a long time from driving Dodges. Loved my Dodges and had all duallys for the last few. Have to say I really love the GM.

Power wise it is not as torquey on the bottom end but overall way more than the Cummins for everyday driving. Mileage is much better as well but tough to compare a dually to a single wheel in that respect.

Ride wise there is no comparison, GM wins hands down.

You need a visit to the chiropractor after a ride in a Dodge. I think they have beautiful interiors but they’re incredibly uncomfortable.

I had bad luck with two Dodge pickups in a row (electrical) so I made the move to GM back in 2008 and haven’t looked back.

My 18 3500 Denali rides beautifully and great power. My trim piece does squeak on the left side of the drivers seat as well (where the seat controls are) but as I put more miles on it has significantly gone down. I’m assuming new plastic on new leather.

My 18 Ram Megacab is not a dually but it does have the factory airbags and I do run the tires a bit lower than the 80 PSI the dealer likes but it rides quite smooth the way I set it up. Sure they are all better with some load on them. The fuel economy is much better than the 15 I had too and the motor is more responsive but that came at the price of using more DEF when under load. My point again is you think you know it all about the other brands but until you actually pick a brand, year and model they are all a bit different. If it wasn't for sleds on a deck I think the Ram 2500 would be the way to go as it is the best ride of any HD on the market hands down. This was the goal when they designed it and it is a big statement to make.

I've spent a fair bit of time in a 2015 F350 Platinum for work and I run a 2012 Ram Megacab laramie as my daily driver. I really like the Ford to be honest, its been a fantastic truck so far. The 6.7 Powerstroke is a decent engine, my only real gripe with the truck is the exhaust brake that seemingly does nothing. The fuel tank is small too, which sucks but aside from an aftermarket tank, theres nothing a guy can do about that. Ford offers the prepaid maintenance plans too which IMO are worth their weight in gold for the diesels.

fyi 17+ exhaust brake is way better. Not as good as a jake but pretty reasonable. They also finally put in a man size fuel tank in as well.

I like the sound of a 181L tank on the long box trucks.

Ya if only these pay before you pump gas stations would get their $hit together and let you pump more than $150 at a time. Drives me nuts. Some are $200 but still not enough. My truck and slip tank holds 360l. I usually never empty both right out but when I do it’s annoying.
