Ranger vs Defender

Thinking about getting into a new SxS and looking at the Ranger XP1000 or the defender HD10. It'd be mainly used for random acreage jobs and plowing snow. Are there any glaring differences between the Polaris and Can am? Either brand more problematic than the other?? This would be my first SxS so any info would be greatly appreciated.

i have an HD10 and its been really good. Over 3000km now. i cant speak for the polaris or its reliability but one thing i like about the Canam is how many accessories Canam has for these things. I have the snow plow with hydraulic turning and quick release, its great. Also their track system is impressive.

who's cab setup did you put on yours Sean?

Polaris all the way. Have over 5000km on mine and not a single issue and i don't baby it.

Super ATV. It works good. The canam cab is unreal but wasn’t in the budget

I've had both. Both are awesome machines. Currently have an hd10 max XT with 6000km. Has been trouble free. So was our ranger 800 before it. I'd go with whatever dealer you prefer, or what you can get a better deal on

go for the all new RANGER 1500 go big or go home nice looking machine but pricey if money wasn't the problem I would buy one looks like a razor on steroids

Must be just me but had a 2016 XP900 and it was terrible, wheel bearings/brakes every 1000 miles, cracked head pipes 3, at 9000 miles we had close to 10k in repairs. Mind you this one was dealer serviced. Last year we picked up a 2022 defender limited 1000 and it has been superb, 2 clutch rebuilds both just wore out, likely from dust. 1 burnt out head light, and passenger window stopped working. However they do have a cold start issue that when its cool in the am. Below +10 c or so you absolutely have to warm it up for a minute or so or it will stall and die. Dealer says its a fuel map issue and are waiting for an update from Can am. For me the can am is awesome and dead reliable.

Looks like an impressive unit. Wonder what kind of stamina it would have in -30 pushing 1000lbs of snow with an electric heater running?

I just picked this up for the farm today. Heat in the cab is nice. Never owned one before so will see how I like it.

I’m about to find out. 115hp and 150tq should be enough power. No heater (or cab), but I did get heated gloves from Costco.

When ours went we knew, hard shifting, creep, never a bad idea to check them over and give them a blow!

Check the weight of the two of them awhile back I believe the canned ham was about 5-600 heavier not sure what the weights are now on these two units

ohh another thing to think about is the defenders have weak floor pans.. ask me how i know... there are guards which I would consider manditory after almsot getting a stump to the groin

Have a ranger. Wouldnt use it for plowing snow though, unless you dont have much to do.

A skid steer is better for that.

When I go to a utility machine in the future it will be the Honda pioneer 1000 with the flip down rear seats. Tons of room in the box and no clutches or belts to deal with.

I had a 19 Ranger 1000 for a Demo in 2019 it was a great machine, we used it for recreational riding, and trail work more than anything, I really debated buying out the demo but we decided to be responsible and bought our acreage instead, I'd still like one!
