The Max speed limit is the law. If a cop wants to be a dick, he can write you up for 1 K over. But yes, most cops will give a 10K grace. With the exceptions of school and construction zones

For sure, but this is photo radar, so there is a clearly defined limit for them. Of course no one will "officially" tell you what that is, set by the municipality. 5km/h is BS though.

In Grande Prairie you are safe at 9km/h over. And at 11 km/h you're getting a ticket.

Edit: referring to photo radar. I've never got an actual ticket at less than 25 km/h over.

I've had the biggest issue in Devon, coming up the river valley to the south and transition to 70, they must get half their tax revenue from this. Dick cops IMO to and I am not a hard guy to get along with.

Really not sure why they bother with this hiway speed limit crap in Alberta, just raise the damn limit to 75 and ticket everyone going over it , no BS arbitrary “safe overage” silliness. Reality is pretty much every vehicle , truck and semi on the hiway has their cruise set at 119 , so it’s actually kind if ridiculous.

the "safe overage" was basically there to account for in accurate speedo's and radar. Go in front of a judge and say I was over by 1km per hour, how accurate was the radar? When was it calibrated? Go in front of the judge and say I was only over by 19 kmh, how accurate was the radar and he looks you in the eye and doubles the fine.

There was a robocop in my town that was here for a couple months that was nailing people for doing 1km over the speed limit. He was getting people for everything and anything, he is gone now... They say he travels from place to place.
