question for seadoo speedster owners

I recently bought a speedster 150 255HP and it cavitates on hard take offs. the impeller is in good shape and seems tight(didn't measure tho),and I replaced the wear ring and its better but still does it. My question is before I spend money on a new impeller or other stuff, is this normal because of the big power?

I've never had anything to do with these boats or even the big HP PWC's so just looking for some info from guys that own one or have owned one

I would think it’s the impeller to wear ring clearance. Those small pumps need to be tight! 0.02” is probably way to much. Talk to Kehoe marine in Edmonton he might rebuild it for cheap

Is it a stock impeller? I know on pwc side, some of the aftermarket impellers are junk compared to oem ones for performance

a friend just rebuilt a 255 and 215 with new wear rings and re used the old impellers after a clean up... they are not getting speeds like before and spinning out as well.

Its a function of being a jet.
Proper clearance between the impeller and wear ring is essential but its still a very small impeller / pump setup. The twin engine jet boats are definately more responsive out of the hole as are the industrial jets which are larger.
Rolling start is better as you are introducing flow to the pump rather than having to displace static water.
Make sure your grate is clear of any obstructions - a small amount of weeds will kill performance.

I just recently had a similar problem with my 215 WAKE. Ended up just being my towrope....seriously though sounds like a wear ring / impeller problem.

I just recently had a similar problem with my 215 WAKE. Ended up just being my towrope....seriously though sounds like a wear ring / impeller problem.
Hope you got lucky and were able to get your intake grate back on after unbolting it... they are just nut inserts in the fiberglass so if they spin you have to pull the engine
