Unfortunately the only consequence is being "one of those guys".... we have installed signs asking ATV's to please "Respect the groomed trail for snowmobile use" is the best we can do. on the 7 sections of our trail that are private property the land owner could press charges for trespassing however unfortunately on any public lands we all have the same rights to it and even though our club commits 18-30 hours per groom at a cost of $1800-$3000 we have no legal repercussion against people damaging our groomed trail or forcing them to buy a trail pass..... it's a respect thing, get involved with a club and you will realize just how much time and money is involved in maintaining our trails.
For people who are just out for the day there are day passes available for $20. We had a check stop 2 weeks ago and out of the 41 people spoken too 28 had trail passes 13 did not. the check stop was for education purposes not a sales push.

who's to say I haven't??? It was just a question! Is there a fine or not? I want to know! I have friends not from here, and if the one time they come out with their sled, and ride out there, get caught without a pass, what's the consequence?
a lack of response would make me think there is no consequence
