Question for BC Log Truck Drivers or...

If your coming up this direction theirs better places to ride then the telkwa pass. I was in there about a month ago and their was a spot that we weren't able to get by with the side by. The mic is a good ride along with the dome which has lots of riding, sylvern lakes is a good day ride as well, tour a bit farther northbound and do nine mile in hazelton. All these places are good rides and the scenery is excellent.

Thanks Skid, are the places you mentioned accessible with a Jeep? And hows the fires and smoke around your area?

The sun kind of looks like the moon in the sky, BC is burning for sure. Best to turn the radio on once and a while to see if your heading for a fire

Kinda like that here some days too from your smoke over there. We will definitely listen to the radio.

All those areas are accessible with a jeep. We've been fairly lucky in Smithers as the smoke has been minimal. Theirs other great areas to ride south of us but with the fires they aren't accessible. If you decide to come up this way PM me and I can give you direction to other areas as well.

We will know for sure today when we get to PG which way we are going to head but it looks like towards you Skid. I will send you a pm to get some directions and thanks guys for helping out. We have just winged it other times with some luck but also ending up wasting a couple hours looking here and there a few times.

Just to let everyone who gave us ideas on where to go we made it back, thanks for the tips where to go and the directions Skid.We ended up not doing as much as we wanted to as usual, the fires and smoke changed our route a bit too but we did head down the Dore River Rd. in Mcbride and found a couple cool spots also a black bear and a couple deer. We get to see a little of the Telkwa pass that Skid guided us to with his great directions and we went to the Twin Falls before we left Smithers as well beautiful country there for sure could have easily spent couple more days there. We ended up in Terrace next where we did a day trip to Rupert for lunch just because I lived there a long time ago, nothing changed and it was raining as usual, we then went up to the the Thornhill tower Rd which had awesome views. On the way back we stayed in Valemount where we went down the North Thompson FSR and found a couple good spots to go, one of which I almost had a face to face with a Grizzly when I got out to check where the hill I was about to go up went to. I walked up it enough to see what was at the top then got back in the Jeep and went up it. As we rounded the corner at the top 10 feet from where I stopped a young Grizzly ran out in front of the Jeep..... kind of made me think twice before getting out of the Jeep after that. lol
Smoke was hit and miss, Mcbride was ok, Smithers was ok, Terrace was ok, Prince George was ok the first night but they got ash the day before and when we came back through they had lots of smoke. Valemount was fine the first night but really smokey the 2nd night. We saw a couple fires just off the highway between PG and Burns Lake that were started the night before by lightening. They were out by the time we came back through. Fraser Lake was bad, across the lake from the town it was burning bad. I hate to say it but it looks like a sign of times to come.
All in all it was a good trip and we had no major issues with the motorhome or Jeep.

Glad you had a good trip, if your ever up this way again you'll have to check out the other areas I mentioned, they won't disappoint. Maybe next time a guy can have a campfire.

If we get up that way again we will definitely allow for a little more time in the Smithers area. Thanks again for the great directions.

and the industry thinks it ok for drivers to work 15 hour days. some serious stress going on there.

Exactly but still no reason for passing on solid line and then doing ????
Professional drivers remember , but who knows what he has going through in his life ??
Cameras everywhere now .

That clown needs to have his license taken away for a long, long time. We all have s*****y days / weeks at work plus long hours and we don't pull off stupid stunts like that.FFS.

Like I said it probably has more to do with something else. Maybe his wife left him or his teenage daughter is pregnant or he is miffed because he finally got a good moose draw and can't use it because he has to work to pay for the quads he financed for hunting season. Can be anything really

One of the biggest problems in the trucking industry today is a complete lack of professional courtesy. I am not going to defend either party in that video, but what I will point out is I have followed the same chip trucks that the pissed off dude tried to kick the grill out of and well, sometimes I have kind of felt the same way, but never have I reacted as he did.

The problem is the night jockies of the chip trucks have a speed limit of between 90 and 95 kmh depending on the company. They know they are driving well below the posted speed limit and well below the speed of ALL the other traffic on the road. The chip truck drivers seem to take great pride in stradeling the yellow line, cutting off lanes of view for other trucks to pass them, speed up when coming to passing lanes and live in their own world. A true professional driver who knows he is driving below the speed limit and his holding up traffic will straddle the white line, get on his radio and let other truckers know when its a good time to pass, generally do his job. Nope. These guys like to get into the "only me" zone and hold up as much traffic as possible. I have literally heard them on the radio laughing about how long of line up there is behind them.

Then to make matters worse, there is not just one chip hauler on the road, many times on the stretch of highway between Vanderhoof and Prince George you will come across 4, 5 maybe even 6 in one trip, all driving way below the speed limit.

That video clip shows a complete lack of professional courtesy not only by the pissed off logger, but the chip hauler as well. He yells on the radio claiming he is traveling 95 kmh, but if you watch the gps on the bottom of his video is shows him spending more time at 90 than 95 and constantly varying of speed. If he just simply did his job and looked in his mirror and helped the traffic he is holding up get around him it would be a hell of a lot safer for everyone.

In my opinion there ar 3 types of chip truck drivers, young guys trying to get some experience, and thats good, old guys who just want to make a wage and live a stress free life, and thats ok as well, and the 3rd group, a whole bunch of fawking culls!

Why do you think it's only drivers of trucks pulling chips ? You see those drivers as somehow not somewhat representative of of all drivers ?

you are correct, it is not only chip truck drivers, because of the shortage of drivers today you see culls in every industry, way to many unprofessional drivers in an industry that sticks out like a sore thumb when somebody makes mistakes.

I single chip truck drivers out in our area because they are the lowest paid "professional" drivers in the region. Being the lowest paid generally means you get the lowest quality of driver.
