I was reading on http://tpr.alberta.ca/parks/kananaskis/XCSkiTrails Reports/SnowmobileReport.pdf that there is a weight limit on off highway vehicles until April 30. Is this correct or old information? Does this prevent certain side by side vehicles like my Polaris Ranger from using the trails until April 30?

that looks to be the case, nothing allowed on the trail weighing more than 992lbs. a yamaha rhino weighs 1200lbs

I ride out there all the time and there are RZR,Rhinos and Commanders.

Just cause they are out there doesn't mean they are there legally....

I found this on the SRD website that confirms it. No vehicles over 1000 pounds between December 1 and April 30. The website was last updated in December of 2011. I guess we'll wait until May to hit the trails out there.

I also ride out there all the time and I see SxS's out there. I think it's the spirit of the rule is trying to keep the trucks out. I think my quad may be over the limit

It's just like the falls!!! I picked up 5 No entry signs that people had ripped down and rode into the falls anyway. People don't read, understand or care!!!

The verdict is in. If your ride is 1000 lbs or lighter you are good to go. If it is over 1000 lbs then stay out. I inquired about my 1245 lb Ranger and the visitor centre said it is too heavy. Oh well. Just have to head west of Red Deer until after April 30.

if the officials were to weigh your 945lb dry RZR on the spot, and it weighed more than a 1000lbs (loaded with oil, fuel, gear, mud), do you think it would matter, propably not.

I really doubt that a couple of hundred pounds in either direction would matter.

The tires and how the machine is being ridden/driven would have a greater effect on the trail sustainability. However I am 1400 plus with accessories and fuel. If I were within 1-2 hundred pounds with stock tires I wouldn't care. So for me it's an easy decision to wait until May.
