The continuing saga of the 97 500 Summit: I forgot to mention that the slides have visable wear marks, don't know if this would affect performance or not? To answer GLENGINES questions in a previous post, it has a primer and I change out the plugs at the start of the season. One thing I did not mention is that it is a pig on gas (very bad fuel economy). I have come to the conclusion that I will do some PM this summer by putting in new pistons and rings and I will put in new sliders, main jets and needle jets in the carbs. On the question about the line coming out of the hack that has a filter on the end instead of being connected to the tube on the mag side of the motor, the local Doo dealer says this was done because the lines were freezing off when it was connnected to the tube on the mag side. Also the Doo dealer says if the HACK is acting up good luck in finding one and if you do be prepared to take a second mortgage on the house to purchase one; its best to disable the hack and jet it out like they use to in the old days. I would like to thank all those users that have responded to my questions about the 500 it has been very helpful.

Thanks,

Billy Boy:cool:

Sounds like a carb problem/ Hac, compression is good on both cylinders, sounds a little low, but without a previous test results you have nothing to compare to. Testers all vary alot, numbers are equal between cyl, so motor is okay, it is quick to pull off heads and check cyl. but for my money replace hoses, give carbs a really good cleaning, 9 yrs old, blow out passages etc, check carb boots etc. Check plugs and wires, if carbon shows up on top of plugs you may need new boots or wires. I would bet your motors fine, a little maintenance will get it running right.
