If I had your sled I would insure it and do all of the above and then buy a real sled. Nothing wrong with your quad though. It gets you up and down the hill with out hitting trees.

sled is more thrilling, but i am liking life at a bit more leisurely pace these days. atvs now.

Snowmobile for me personally. I can go faster while feeling safer (whether or not it is safer is up for debate, but I feel safer). 90mph on a sled is sketch, but doable. If I went 90mph on an ATV I would like freeze up and crash.

Sleds can be a blast off trail, I can tip it, carve it, pin it, etc. An ATV off trail is more or less the same as off trail, though mud can change things up, but then your muddy and will be picking fort outta your ears for a week.

It's been said but... The cold weather can be fix with more layers (unless you hit -30). On an ATV, you can only peel down to skin, which is asking for a bruising when you fall off or your leg bits the exhaust.

I can hit farmers fields in the winter with no issue (in my area at least) summer time means crops, which means an angry pitchfork chasin' gun wieldin' half nekked farmer coming after you.

Snowmobiles (at least mine, as it's older) gives you a project to work on in summer. Working on an ATV in the summer means your missing ride time, and wrenching in the summer sucks, thought it's a bit better if you have a shop (still not as good as drinking a beer in the sun while wrenching).

An ATV can also cost a lot more to buy used (I can pick up a running 600cc sled for 800-1000 bucks, but a 500cc atv that runs is hard to come by for less than 2000 where I am, a 700cc will be even higher, that gives me roughly a thousand bucks to put into a sled before I'm losing money (although a 1000 bucks doesn't necessarily go far on a sled)

Snowmobiles can definitely be a money pit though. And you need to rely quite a bit on the weather, which can be hit and miss, an ATV can be fun in rain or sun. You only have one season for a sled, whereas a quad can be used three, and sometimes four season.

yes they should offer a prescratched model mechanically brand new but discounted heavily for normal wear and tear cosmetic issues

Didn't do the Warren Buffet thing, but I did retire. Road less last winter than I ever did when I was working, and spring so far hasn't been much better. How did I ever have time to work? I don't even have time to play now.

To the original question.....at my age, until I tried a snowbike, I might have said quad. So can we throw bikes into the equation? Hands down the most fun I've ever had on snow, and I can use it all summer too.

we used those at work doubling and carrying surveying equipment ....not very productive but a trike can go places with one rider where some two wheel drive quads will not but still are scary

He has a REAL SLED, it might be clapped out but I.d still trust it over one of them p word things
