I suspect the bad guys would have told some sob story about how mommy never read them Thomas the Train when they were little or how they got room temperature milk and now here they are.

There’s more to defending one's self then buying a gun, it's the same with Avy gear, you need to know how to use it, be prepared to use it without hesitation.
There is a scary statistic of the number of people that pull out a gun to defend them self's only to have the gun taken from them and used against them.

Look at thevideo had he bought a gun and not had trying, the criminal had the bat in theair, hesitate a second and the story changes.

Not saying don’town it, just need to understand the it’s not a solution for everyone, just like sledding in the mountains....

Make training mandatory if you want to own one, Id be for that.....

First of all glad this guy was able to protect himself and his home from these scums. But adding more guns into society is not necessarily the answer. Billions of people on this planet live without the protection of guns (other than law enforcment / military etc) and sure there are circumstances like this video that you wished you had one. IMO, there is something wrong with the fundamentals of American society that needs to dramatically change as that is where the problem exists. Look how it was free for all in New Orleans after Katrina but in Japan everyone was peaceful and orderly after the earth quake. One place to start is with the judicial system that needs complete rebuild and hand out tougher sentences for hard core crimes. Just my 2 cents worth.

its sad cause i use to think it made a guy look like a liar not to talk to the cops but i think in a case like this... you'd be prudent not to say anything! speak to a lawyer and don't say anything to the cops... last you need on the stand is having your words turned around in court by a fast thinking lawyer... this guy is a cop... he said everything right and i bet he had a list of questions he agreed to answer on air and the answers were prepared by his lawyer... HE's not a LIAR he's just smart!

if you did this... and you had a honest belief you were in serious trouble even in Canada i think you'd be alright... of course you'd say your guns were locked up in a safe with the ammo stored seperate ! :)

I know for me... i have small children... ill go to jail for the rest of my life before i let a threat enter the front door or any entrance for that matter...

i tell my wife not to open the door when im not at home... i know paranoid but i grew up in vancouver and seen a lot of ****!

Unfortunately in Canada, if you have something easily accessible (with the purpose to defend yourself, no matter what it is) it shows intent and no matter the situation, you'd be in as much legal sh@t as the person intending to harm you. Sad but true. You have to make sure whatever it is was in a place that was not meant to be accessible to be used in a harmful manner. That being said, I've also twice heard (hypothetically and completely made up......) from 2 different officers of some sort of law that if there was harmful intent it is much easier on the system if there is only one person to give the facts and story......

And you can legally store your ammo with your firearm, it just can't be loaded. It is even legal to store loaded magazines next to it, but they both have to be securely locked up. Ammo does not actually have to be locked up at all (not getting into a right and wrong thing, just stating the law).

I thought ammo had to be stored separate from the fire arm ... meaning it can be in the same room but not in the gun safe ???

Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearms.

I've also heard of a scenario a few friends and relatives connected where a cop shot a civilian (criminal obviously) and they lived. Cop learned the lesson you say the hard way.
