Either way, some one breaks into my house while I'm in it, if they don't leave when u yell at them guess what someone's prob going to be getting shot, just going to have to deal with consequences but I also think it's better to only have one side of a story, your own story against a dead criminals story. And get a good lawyer!

Self defence laws here in Canads are good.

Tells you what you can and can not do. It is very clear on what you can and can not get away with in your state of mind.
Instigating or egging one on is not self defence.
Meeting force the is equal to repeal further assault.
Justify force to stop grevious bodily harm and stopping when it is apparent harm has stopped.

34. (1) Every one who is unlawfully assaulted without having provoked the assault is justified in repelling force by force if the force he uses is not intended to cause death or grievous bodily harm and is no more than is necessary to enable him to defend himself.
(2) Every one who is unlawfully assaulted and who causes death or grievous bodily harm in repelling the assault is justified if
(a) he causes it under reasonable apprehension of death or grievous bodily harm from the violence with which the assault was originally made or with which the assailant pursues his purposes; and
(b) he believes, on reasonable grounds, that he cannot otherwise preserve himself from death or grievous bodily harm.

The law should be pretty clear, the issue is the court system putting the onus on you to prove you were just. Unless they're actually shooting at you or stabbing you, good luck with that.
Even still, the bs anti-gun nuts will be all over it. In Canada, you're best to not use a gun unless 150% sure you can't get it done with anything else. And anything else you use, better get it done with one hit or you'll be spending your own money on a lawyer to prove it was needed. And you sure as hell will get more time in prison for going too far to protect yourself and your family than the person intending you all harm in the first place. Sad truth. Thank a Liberal.

With guilty people, it's innocent until proven guilty, with innocent people, it's guilty until proven innocent.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of anyone that has gone to jail for defending their home and family from an intruder. Are there any?
How do you know who is innocent or guilty until they go through the process?

Do you know anyone who has killed someone defending themselves?.....
Not in a home, but there was a case in Winnipeg a few years back where a guy was going around the bar looking for a fight, basically attacked another guy outside the bar. The other guy punched him once defending himself, the instigator fell back hitting his head on the curb and died. The guy who was outside minding his own business served 5 years for manslaughter. They were both in their early 20's.

I was actually at a bar in Winnipeg where a guy was running around the bar looking for a fight (if not for my friends girlfriend I would have been outside with him), finally got someone to go outside with him and ended up getting his ass kicked. He then went to his car, got a handgun, and tried to shoot the guy he picked a fight with while at least 100 people were out there and saw it all. When the cops showed up he took shots at them, they shot him but he lived. 2 months in hospital, and ended up only doing 4 years in prison.

Look at the guy out east who fired warning shots at guys who were trying to burn his house down with him in it. He was in more trouble than the idiots trying to burn down his house.

Look around, PLENTY of examples out there. I also know a few that went the right way, but it seems to come down to the officers reporting (things were left out or manipulated to look better in all cases) more than anything.

Where is there a better legal system? Never going to be perfect.

There's plenty of systems out there that work better for deterring criminals, but unfortunately a lot of them are also the most corrupt.
When I was 18 I knew a judges son who STOLE 30 lbs of explosives from the mine to "blow up a beaver dam".......he got 1 year probation. Ours isn't exactly spotless either.
Not saying anywhere is perfect, or that any system can be perfect. But there are lots of avenues in which ours can be fixed and made better, unfortunately it is headed in the wrong direction.

I had an issue. Neighbors kid and a couple of his teenage buddies steal my dirtbikes one night, cops do nothing more than take a report. So i take the time to do my own investigation. Following tracks to where the bikes were hidden. So we want to do the rite thing so call the cops back telling them we found the bikes, who then tell us to take them home as they were our property, but thats all they had to say or wanted to do about the situation. So we took it into our own hands to prove our theory about who it was, and catch the little basterds. So we waited, and it did not take long for them to show up, to check on their stash of stolen goods. There was a scuffle involved and when the cops finally showed up it was us who got hauled off to jail facing a long list of charges! We had to hound the rcmp and supply them with evidence i collected myself for them to investigate further and finally charge the kids. But the probation they got was peanuts to the legal fee's charges and time in jail we dealt with. Our legal system and the rcmp are a pathetic joke.

I know a few RC's, like anything there's good and bad ones, but if you got treated the way they treat their members, you wouldn't exactly be all you can be either....

An ex of mine had her stereo stole out of her car from a so called "friend" but couldn't prove it. But four days later another friend happened to be at this "friends" house and seen all the stereo equipment in his closet. She called the cops and all they told her was that there is no proof just heresay. And yes I know there is bigger fish to fry but really when the evidence is there follow it. After a little "chat" with me though she got her stuff back and I got away lucky. I'll leave it at that.

First of all glad this guy was able to protect himself and his home from these scums. But adding more guns into society is not necessarily the answer. Billions of people on this planet live without the protection of guns (other than law enforcment / military etc) and sure there are circumstances like this video that you wished you had one. IMO, there is something wrong with the fundamentals of American society that needs to dramatically change as that is where the problem exists. Look how it was free for all in New Orleans after Katrina but in Japan everyone was peaceful and orderly after the earth quake. One place to start is with the judicial system that needs complete rebuild and hand out tougher sentences for hard core crimes. Just my 2 cents worth.
Ruthless dictators have killed millions who couldn't defend themselves, throughout history. The 2nd amendment was created to ensure that wouldn't happen, and thankfully enough people will do what it takes to preserve it, because it seems very apparent that we do have what could be an aspiring dictator and plenty more will surely take his place. Comparing New Orleans and Japan is like apples and oranges. On one side you have a culture of dependency, corruption, and abuse brought on by a welfare system designed to elect Democrats. Look up the Lyndon B Johnson quote of "I'll have those (n words) voting Democrat for the next 200 years." Japan still seems to have a culture of respect and family values. The prisons are already crowded and the money for building and running more is hard to come by. Many financially troubled communities and rural areas have little to rely on but themselves for protection. I think about the commercial for "life alert". A lady is talking to the operator on the other end while walking and telling him that she thinks she is being followed. The operator assures her that they will call the police for her if need be. I assume that way the police will at least be on top of the task of identifying her body. Am I the only one that can't make new paragraphs on here. Don't know why? lol.

Kind of like our own welfare system breeding Liberal voters? A lot of self entitled people keep the votes coming. Don't even get me started on pension funds being spent and cut while welfare and "arts" spending climbs higher and higher. Stealing from the taxed to death poor to give to the poorer by choice. And while there are lots that need help and I have nothing against supporting them and give plenty, there are more that do it purely by choice.

You think it's bad when they won't go get stolen property even when they know where it is? My friends coworker (crackhead) stole a laptop and company phone, took off to Vancouver and sold them to a dealer. When they called the phone trying to find him, the DEALER answered it saying he was long gone and sold them to the dealer for $100!!! of crack. Gave them their address so they could come pick them up for the $100. Called the police with the home address of a CRACK DEALER in possession of stolen property.........and they did NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good old Vancouver police. Utterly ridiculous.

Getting to be more issues with police surfacing down here as well. Many police departments have also obtained military assault vehicles from the government. Can't think of very many legitimate uses for such equipment. The libs that think some tax supported entity will always have their backs and see great benefit to disarming law abiding citizens fit neatly into the category of "none so blind as those who will not see". They have been great for gun sales though, as many of us have increased our personal inventories since the election of 2008.

you don't just have to worry about the ruthless dictators only as there are example of democratic governments doing the same and not necessarily on home soil either. As for my comparison, like I said, there is something wrong with American society (and many Western ones including Canada) that we have created this type of belief that my government owes me instead of getting off your a$$ and working for it. IMO, NO government has the balls to stop this as that would be suicidal for re-election regardless if your a democrat or a republican. So, the vicious circle continues until something big happens and I don't even want to think about that scenario.

If you want to find out what I think about any laws that would protect any scumbag that breaks into my home or hurts a family member, break into my home or hurt my family member.
