pros or cons fords 6.8l v 10

Looking at buying f-350 with the v-10 gasser to pull my 30 foot trailer and still have room in the box for the bikes. Don't want diesel because I do to many short halls to work and back in the 30 below weather so thought the big gas job would be better. If you guys know any pros or cons on the 2006 models or 6.8 v10 I would like to hear from you.

I used to work at a Ford dealer we never had a lot of problems with the V-10.
Engine held up very well as long as servicing was done. Fuel filters and dirty fuel bogged those things down.
Tranny will need a extra cooler a k & n air filter will help
Service diff if pulling a lot also

Sounds like a V-10 would fit the bill for you perfectly, I have had lots of diesels and the only real benefit nowadays is the ridiculous power you can get when chipped but the cost of maintenance off warranty is stupid.

The truck you are suggesting is a great truck, I don't know if there has every been a tougher truck made with the amount you would need to spend. Earlier models had troubles blowing spark plugs out of the heads. A great place to go for info on these is the dieselstop.com. Check under the v-10 gas forum.

One reason the plugs blow is not checking them and dirty threads.
We had more V-8 plugs out than V-10.
If you remove coil blow out dirt and may have to put anti seize spray on plug.
Remove plugs carefully and not pull threads.
We used nickel cote on the new plugs and tighten properly.
You can also repair the heads without removing.
The owners guide has a very low km plug check most people ignored.

I have the V-10 and like the power and how it pull's, not as good as my 2002 7.3 diesel but still well enough that I dont have problems on hill's and can pass most conventionals around. Not too bad on fuel either (considering what I thought it would have been).

i just ordered a 09 f350 with the V10 a week and a half ago for the very same reasons that you are considering it can't wait to it gets here should be built by late this week or early next week and then good by overworked F150

:dWe put the V10s on propane more octane 105+ 13to14 mpg, good power. With propane you can afford to drive more and pulling power is great. I was at my local Ford dealer today talking about a Ford. I am not sure what I am going to do. I am a GM fan but don't like the 6.0L (bad heads) (Intake valves) I even looked at Dodge (not a hemi fan) I think if I was today going to buy it would be a V10 F250. MY 2 CENTS WORTH

I have a 2008 F350 with V10. They will pull fine, just don't compare them to a diesel. The V10 doesn't have the same torque. Once you get used to running at higher RPM, you are set.

I pull an older 25' 5th wheel with a 2 place sled trailer with a Polaris Ranger on it behind. The mileage is certainly less than with a diesel, but so is purchase and maintenance costs.

All in all, it should work good for you.

Whats your propane conversion kit worth?Looking for a 08 350 dually shortbox crewcab hard to find i guess.Heading to Dawson Creek friday mabye find something up there.

I bought a '09 V10 about a month ago. Fuel moilage is going up the more I drive it. I only have 4000 km. I am not putting a lot of stock in the milage yet. I average about 14-17 in the city and 16-18 on the hiway empty. With my boat on I get 11-12. I am waiting for a cold air intake to come out I have heard they help and a chip, That is supposed to help as well. I could not spend the $8000 more for a Diesel that gets the same milage,with twice the maint. costs..

I had a 99 F250 V10 a while back. I was quite happy with it. Good power and decent mileage considering the size of the engine. Over the years the V10 has proven itself to be fairly reliable. Since then I have had 2 6.0L diesels. The 03 was a disaster, but my 06 that I have now has been pretty good. I like the diesel, and a V10 will never have the same pull, but I have to say that I am considering going back to a V10 for my next truck. 8K does buy a lot of fuel, and I really don’t like all the emission junk they put on the new diesels now.

I was told to burn the particulate filter properly, 2 hours driving in the city and 45 mins. hi-way. I know you can have delete kits installed. I also see a lot more V10's on the road now as well.
