I have wanted to own one of these since I was a kid. I am too stubborn and cheap to just go and buy one that is in nice shape. One of my friends had an incident with a frozen throttle cable or iced up carbs and his 96 Phazer 2 Mountain Lite hit a tree in his yard wide open. I will have to get some pics from before some parts where pulled to check the frame but this is what happened. It was in very nice condition before the tree magnet was turned on.

I went to Benalto to check out the damage for him and long story shortened I bought it from him for $600. First offered to find the parts to repair it and would have worked on it for him in exchange for giving my girls skating lessons. Something that was natural to me is sure difficult to teach I find.
Anyway I found a straight frame and bought it from Dusty Dancer who runs Snowmobile Recyclers in Dewinton (all around good **** his card even says so). Then used the Snow and Mud courier service and had Trashy pick it up for me and brought it to Red Deer which cost me some Bud light but I didn't have to spend an evening driving to and from Calgary. Thanks Trashy.

Before getting the straight frame from Dusty I bought two basket case Phazers from Calmar they are in the background. I wasn't sure how many spare parts I would need and this package came with another motor. So far all I have needed was a hood, nose cone, speedo cable, y pipe and tuned pipe and skis from this pile of scrap. And misc bolts that were misplaced. Both of those machines would have need frame or tunnel work to be used again.

The motor runs great still. I think the pipe was squished shut and killed the motor before anything contacted the clutch and that was only plastic. Some run time will confirm that I guess. I spent a fair bit of time cleaning up all the grime that collects in a sled chassis over 27 years. Replacement frame is a 1991.

Most of the hours I have spent working on this are between 4am and 7 am so when I have to clean up to do my actual job I just pile everything up.

The owner before my friend had installed a Polaris track and beat the front of the tunnel enough to have lug clearance barely. I didn't want to do that to the replacement so I had the Machinist we use at work turn down the drivers. They are now just over 6 inch diameter and the track barely fits I may have to knock the tunnel back a bit to clear the Center lugs. May have to change up the gearing after I test ride it.

Kids are awake so I can head to the shop and they can help remove some decals. From the mismatched panels.

I was able to get it assembled enough to take it for a test run last night with my oldest Daughter. I need I find better skis for it the ones I install from the parts donors don't get on top of fluffy snow. At least not at the speeds we were going in the dark.

I still have the skid plate to reinstall and need to find skis that work better. Some lighting issues and speedo and tach cables.

Phasers are awesome. Was my first sled as a mountain rider. Went down turbo hill in Revy many times on mine.

I had one of them in the early day's, an 1984 first year model and an 86 model, they were an awesome mountain sled. I had converted mine to a 136" using a Yamaha Enticer trapper rails and track and plastic paddles.
The Phazers were known for frozen throttles, be very careful if kids are riding these sleds. Tether is a must on these. They did use TORS but many didn't work.
If kids are using the sled its best to avoid deep snow in cold temps IMO.
Why they have this frozen throttle issue is because of the fan cooling and venting system. We would duct tape over 50% of the hood ducting on cold day's and nearly all of it in deep powder days when it was cold.
They are a great sled but also a dangerous sled in the right condition's, i have personally experience frozen throttle on Phazer many many times, to the point you knew by the feel of the flipper things were starting to stick.
Not trying to poopoo this just giving heads up, especially for kids.

Frozen throttle is what happened to this machine when I bought it smashed. I can see how that can be an issue. The carb switch was disconnected when I got it. I have that hooked up again and will be adding a tether this week. With these temp skis on it you come off it looking like a snow man.

I bought a used set of Gripper skis that I am going Install this week. Hopefully the snow doesn't melt too fast.

Gripper skis installed. I may need to tweak the ski saddle some more still. The spindle part of the TSS suspension is much longer than polaris spindles. We are under a snowfall warning so if the snow gods cooperate I might even get it out to test on Saturday.

I also need to align the skis and take some slop out of the steering.

Seen a guy and his kid on medicine lake, his kid was driving this same sled. You could see his smile sticking out of his helmet. I thought about this thread.

I have tried to get buddies out to go sledding with me many times this year. All guys that use to ride that sold their sleds for various reasons. No takers not even once and I was providing the sled, oil and gas. My most reliable ridding buddy and easiest person to arrange sledding with is my 12 year old daughter. All I have to say is we are going sledding and it happens. Having a reliable machine that I don't have to work on before we ride was a priority for me this year.
