Ok guys. I've done a few searches, came up empty handed. There's been a few threads already askin the same question but it seems the locals are greedy ;) lol.... I wanna know how to get to TURTLE MOUNTAIN. All I know, or think I know, is turn right near the bridge on kirkup trail.... That's fine and all, but I'm sure there has to be a bit more to it then that .... So come on, spill the beans!!!

I heard its a hard place to get into and not worth your time unless you're turbod up. Can't be that hard can it?! I consider myself a fairly good mountain rider, riding a stock proclimb m8. I've went up kirkup trail a dozen times but haven't noticed that turn off, mainly cuz I wasn't lookin for it then I guess

need a turbo..... no! Where do people get off on this hype that you need turbos to go everywhere. Anyway you will know your in the right area, you will be climbing south facing slopes, which are avy chutes by the way. The road will jsut end, which sorta looks like a cut block and it will go straight up. And from there it will hookup with some avy chutes, at which you will still be going straight up. Stay ON the trail that someone has made at all times. I dunno if there is a agreement in place but they do skiing down these chutes/hill and in the trees. Once at the top you will have to cross a large and steep revine. AFTER the revine the terrain is free for you to chew up. You will know when you on the right track/road as it will be steep, high avy risk, and rutted to crap from all the 4s turbos.

Thanks a lot guys. Sounds like a bit of a challenge. Hey mattiac, I'm assuming you were in revy lately, you think the snow conditions are suitable to bomb a stock sled up that trail??

Yes follow the valley after the turn past the bridge, there should be plenty of tracks.
at the end of the valley the trail will shoot up thru the trees, almost stright up the mountain, thats where it can get a little hairy. I recommend trying it in the spring for your first shot. once at the top of the mt follow the range somewhat to right still gaining altitude. once there you will see a big lake in the next range valley. drop on in and explore, that is just the start you can go along ways back over more ranges tons of lakes back there. i have heard that you can get to eagles pass that way. better to go with someone who knows the area.
The other way in is the heli ski sign on the kirkup trail just turn off and follow tracks, not sure if you can go that way until spring as there is a heli operation and you go thru more avy terrain that way.

Both entrances to the trails are on the kirkup trail tho right? I think we are going to give it a shot. As long as the weather is permitting. Not gonna lead a group into somewhere I haven't been before in any type of bad weather.

Since everyone is being so giving, whats the best way into the monster bowl? I've looked down the monster, I want to point the turbo up it and Join the club...or crash burn roll and give everyone one hours of laughs

10-12km rough estimate. Big sign at the trailhead warning of heliskiing in area. Trail can get pretty trenched out in the cutblocks but my buddies girl on her 600 made it, I'm sure you can.:d P1110325.jpg

Or if you want to take the long route, come from Eagle Pass side, just make sure you pack some gas. Yrs ago meet some guys in. Got bsing about stuff. Next they said will ride out this us to the trucks. So off we went, picked up our gas. One of them said, were are you guys going? We said back to Revy, why. They came from the eagle side, those boys had a long ride back. Gave them our spare gas, got them turned around.

I thought I remember you saying in another thread that you had just started riding a little while ago, so not trying to judge, just commenting on the statement of "fairly good mountain rider". I would say Turtle qualifies as an "experienced sledder destination", kinda like Gorman Lake. No you don't need a turbo to get into Turtle and newbies do go in there, but keep in mind that you need a stable high pressure system (extended sunny days) for best riding, not a spot for a ride on a foggy day, not a spot to be trying to come out of in the dark (i.e. better left for spring when longer days give you more time to get your bearings and higher chance of better weather), and not a spot for people without avy training or the ability to self-rescue IMO. As mentioned, the trail has its own demons and just getting in (or out in bad weather) can be a battle. Find someone familar with the area that is willing to take you in for the first go round, it'll make your trip that much more enjoyable.

Last year was my first year riding in the mountains yes, not my first year riding a sled. I've been in revy now maybe 10 times or so including this year. I'm just getting bored with boulder and frisby and want to try something new. I never said I was an experienced or pro rider, I know I'm not, and I have a long ways to go before I'm even close to that. I'm just saying I have no problems getting most places on my sled. I've been up chutes at turbo, been way out back of the ridge at frisby, it's just getting old and for some reason every time I usually go there it's tracked to death. Just looking for a challenge. No bragging or self conceitedness here, if that's how you took it I certainly didn't mean it like that. I appreciate your input tho. I would love to find someone who knows the area to take us into turtle....
