Just wondering what you all do for pre-season maintenance.
There is a list of things in the service manual that they want done every year like chain case oil and fuel filter Etc.
I am all about preventative maintenance but some of that stuff might be over doing it every year.

What little I can do myself. Definitely chain case oil. Check the belt and clean up the clutches. Check or replace plugs. Track tension and alignment. Ski alignment. Grease. Just make sure everything is tight. Polish at least 6 times. Sit on and pretend a few times....good to go!

I usually get a new belt and rotate the one i had on, onto the spare. Cleaning the clutches with an sos pad seemed to be a good idea when i did it, helped with the grip. Check plugs. I spent this pre season putting the sled back together after the trees jumped out in front of me last year.

Clean clutches, take it appart and give it a good cleaning. re surfface the faces. give the motor and engine area a good engine shampoo.

new belt.
grease the rear skid and make sure no broken parts.
grease the front suspenson.
remove chain case cover and inspect chain for cracks or broken teeht ( except cat )
cat - gear drive check it.
run up the motor for a bit. get the fuel moving throught it.
change plugs,
clean carbs if needed.

p.s. mothers hot rims in the pink bottle works awesome for cleaning clutches and a good parts cleaner brush.. will make them brand new.. but IT WILL EAT ANYTHING!!!! plastic. coated bolts ect. so be carefull.

Thanks guys

Now I just have to decide if i should just drain the chain case or or pull the cover.

Is there anyway to clean the carbs without taking them off and apart?
I think I know the answer to this one.

Best to take them off...yes. Inspect slides, clean seddiment bowls, inspect boots for cracks, and have a boo at the reeds too :d

I would like to find somebody around here to do it for that kind of price.

The dealer wants $350 to do it.

I do not even know if it needs to be done the machine has low km's.

Always best to do some preventive mantenaince after the machine has been sitting all summer, no matter the kms/miles.

Top up Oil, Change chaincase fluid, check brake fluid, check belt and hoses, clean clutches, inspect skid and track, replace worn stopper straps, grease skid and chassis, inspect skis and runners, replace worn broken and worn runners, and of course fill up with fuel ready for first ride. I'm about half way though this list and i'm sure i'll find more.

Even for those not very mechanical i would say to just look at it and see if anything seems broken or out of place, and if your not sure find someone to help.
Personally i go through all (7, yes 7) in the family, check over all susp. parts, grease, check carbides, toe, make sure all the electrical parts are working (lights, hand warmers, key sw., kill switch, etc) run it for a while to get some fresh fuel in the carbs, wash/wax and polish the tunnel.
Now if the snow will show up...

I have made a habit of doing most of the things listed here and in 15 years of cleaning carbs have not found any blockages in the pilot or main jets until this year. It pays to check before riding
