Out at sled camp last year we used a high pressure sodium. Nice and bright. Might install a couple big light bars on the side of three bus this year though.

What did you pay for those? I have 20’ post top lights with a coach 88W LED head with downward light focus. Spreads the light about 40’ around the pole so you can see nickel on the ground, descent light out to about 80’. If the entire yard is dark you can get around ok, hook up trailers see anything you need to. In the farm yard we have 4, spaced out about 100’ from each other, zig zag pattern. House yard we have 2, they light up everything we need to see without looking like a spotlight. I’ll post some pictures when I track some down. Height isn’t always the best option, unless you are lighting up a huge area and want to see everything like high noon.

Those are some big lumens!

One is probably good for a Lighthouse on the east coast. Lol. But seriously they are likely something used in a football stadium or something. Higher the better for those. Might be too intense and not wide enough spread at 40 feet. You will see what your doing but don’t look up.

We have installed thousands of Eiko highbays with very few duds. Good products at good prices.

Are they all going on one existing post location with just an existing 15 amp 120 volt feed? That won’t handle 2400 watts.

Coming off a 30ft, curved taper pole.
240V 30AMP breaker.
Taking down 2 1500 watt halogen.

I have about 10 acres I want to light up.
Pole is right in the center of my yard, so I got 4 to try and do a full 360.

Might need a taller metal pole. Where is the best place to buy from?

These were $1300 each.

Think I am gonna try these lights on my 30ft curved first and then see if I need to go higher.

I also see grandpa only has the current pole anchored into a 4" cement slab.
Been standing since 1978..........

Ok lighting gurus.

I need to replace this fixture on my house. I can’t find any markings to tell me how many watts it is. What would be the preferred lumens to be bright enough to see around the yard but not be high noon.

The light sits at about the 30 foot mark under the peak of my roof.

Bypass the ballast and throw a 50 watt LED corn bulb in it ($50). You will be happy.

A corn cob lamp is an option. What size lamp was in it? 175 watt? 50 watt led would be more than equivalent light.

If you want to upgrade the fixture, depends on what you want it to look like, the mounting location, and what wiring is there for the existing power feed. . Wallpack vs flood light style.

On the bulb there will be printing. It will say how many watts and if it an hps(high pressure sodium), metal halide(mh) or mercury vapor(mv). Have a read or take a pic and post it up. You can take the wattage and google match it to lumens.
I would recommend a 400w high pressure sodium with a timer or photocell. It’s orange light but energy efficient.

I’ve pulled the bulb, and there is no writing on it.

After getting the first response, I found a similar 55w fixture on amazon fo $65. I will give that a try. If I don’t like it I can always change it.

Thanks for the suggestions.
