So Trudeau has actually had a good day, not promoting dictators today but has approved Kinder Morgan's transmountain improvements and hardisty east Line 3. Seems like pretty good news. And wtf is Notley's statement today.... She now supports $50/mt carbon tax in response to the liberal announcement, what a stupid a twit.

So it is good news... Too bad about the 3rd line. Nothing on the eastern line yet :( .... Let the east keep using unethical oil, bringing tankers up into the st lawrence.

Most of the kinder/morgan pipeline should go well, but i suspect big resistance from the greenies from hope to burnaby terminals, and also upgrading the burnaby terminals.

But let Montreal and Quebec City keep dumping raw sewage into the St Lawrence... that's okay??

The greater Vancouver area (or maybe the City of Vancouver) should develop a license for protesting. Charge the greenies $1000's of dollars/protest group and reap in the cash. It is going to be an ongoing battle out there. We haven't seen protests of the projected magnitude in Canada yet. It is going to be interesting and frustrating; interesting to watch the procedure with the enforcement agencies and very frustrating for the contractors.

This seems counterproductive. Approve a pipeline to move oil at market prices, then raise carbon taxes to move this same oil?? Am I missing something here?

yup its going to get messy out there. On Global news this morning they said based on social media reaction its approx 55% in favour and 45% against which the majority of that is from Vancouver. The interior of BC is mostly in favour.

It is encouraging to see JT has come to the conclusion that he does indeed need a strong energy sector .. To keep the car between the lines & out of the ditch .....

Personally, I think this is total BS. The true impact of these decisions is far beyond my understanding but it seems to me that the more environmentally and fiscally responsible decision would have been to can this pipeline for now and concentrate on Energy East first and Keystone XL second.

Yah, usually if there is the word East in a project, it gets Government priority !

Trump has all the cards ! He wants cheap raw exports from Canada . IE
Lumber , oil , cattle ,gas & eventually water . Of course he wants the refining jobs to stay in the US .

Now as western Canada is pretty much a raw export area , we are in some what of a good position ,Eastern Canada , not so much ...
They are more finished product / manufacturing / auto based economy .... Exactly what trump has no use for ...

If JT does not play ball , a few well placed tariffs & eastern Canada is in a bit of a mess ... Big time .
You will see a more "reasonable " JT , sooner rather than later ... He has no choice .. If the "EAST " gets hit hard , Libs & JT are done ....

don't be so quick to praise Trump. He wants to re-negotiate NAFTA which is huge for western canada especially agri and lumber (although still a crap show on the lumber issue). Farming will be a concern especially for the dairy and egg guys. So, maybe a win for oil/gas sector but possibly a huge problem for everyone else. Never a win win balance.

he needs us as much as we need him. should be a fair deal to be had for both sides while giving Mejico a shot . only problem as I see it is our goverment leaders are mostly useless at proper negotiations . Trudeau already saying he is willing to talk before Trump even in office ! If he had any business acumen his first statement to trump should only be after Trump asks and it should be to nicely tell him to frig off as there is already an agreement in place

Gateway was a ZERO chance pipeline from day one.

Trump has said Key XL is a done deal

Enbridge's "Trans Mountain" pipeline has been there for 60 years... most of those protesters don't even know that, it's a positive for the environment that they lay a new line down and double hull tankers, with the extra tugs do not threaten the environment.

Enbridge's Line 3 is also a replacement of old line...

What the **** is everybody protesting for ?
