It's true that many of the protesters don't know kinder Morgan is already there or that there is even oil tankers parking in Vancouver. Shhh don't tell them that there is even a couple small region on the west coast.

I kind of hope the existing TransMountain line needs to be shut in for some small reason and runs the Burnaby refinery dry for a month or two at some point before the twin line is commisioned... That might get their attention lol

No it won't. Most folks think that it's just there. Natural gas is just there when they turn on the switch, gas is just at the pump and concrete just comes in a truck. Most people don't actually know what they are using, where it comes from or what it takes to make it. One of the greatest examples I laugh at is the lafarg concrete plant east of canmore. I know a guy that was doing soil samples on Burnaby mountain for KM during the big protests. He said half the people didn't even know why they were there they just showed up because someone said it was bad.

I think all those protestors are paid by a higher power, what should happen is all charged federally for obstruction when they are in the way and only way to get out of the country is by horse and buggy and heat there home with flamless candle then they might get there attention.

What's frustrating is that the idiot protesters and Indians will hold up this project for years with court challenges etc. There was a city of Vancouver councellor on the news saying that the city was prepared to take this to the courts. Notice that nothing is being said about the enbridge line to the east that also got approval? The trendy protesters don't care about it because no one wants to go to Manitoba to protest.

I was reading some of the drivel from the protester types. My fawk they are stupid, just total citiots. Then I see an article on the protesters in NoDak and this one they are interviewing is living in some type of blanket fort. What a fawkin loser. Just protesting because it's in vogue and gives their otherwise worthless existence some meaning. Guess they'd rather be homeless in the middle of nowhere than in the big city.

I do understand some of their educated stands against the pipeline and some do have genuine concern and car but those hardly make it on tv

Gateway was a ZERO chance pipeline from day one.

Trump has said Key XL is a done deal

Enbridge's "Trans Mountain" pipeline has been there for 60 years... most of those protesters don't even know that, it's a positive for the environment that they lay a new line down and double hull tankers, with the extra tugs do not threaten the environment.

Enbridge's Line 3 is also a replacement of old line...

What the **** is everybody protesting for ?

Lmao yah no kidding, the trans mountain was expanded in 2006/2008 i do not recall any protests than under a conservative govt.
Now its 10 years later and what has changed??? Millennials lol

Oil and gas development protesters always crack me up, like they don't drive, heat their houses or buy anything plastic.

Agreed. Totally frustrating, I would love for a group of protesters to live 1 year carbon free and live stream it. Prove your dedication to living carbon free. I mean totally carbon free, not even burning wood, using wood, I don't know... you might piss off the anti logging protesters, you might even be one of those too.

Solar panels, huge carbon footprint just to make the things with all the mining, smelting, manufacturing and transportation. How long does a solar panel system have to be in service to become carbon neutral ?

How about an electric car ^^^ same questions...not to mention where is the electricity coming from, a coal plant ? Hydro electric dam...great try and build one of those without a major carbon footprint.

That idiot Vancouver mayor is on record saying an oil spill would cost Vancouver 400,000 jobs...really...well lets see, there isn't even 400,000 jobs in Vancouver. Oil spill...OK shut er all down everyone go home the city is closed you're all out of work now. Idiot

He also has a plan to cut natural gas from Vancouver by 2020.

Robertson wants a 70 per cent cut in natural gas use by 2020, and 90 per cent gone within 10 years.

That's a really good question and I'm really curious to find out what the answer is. I did do a little digging and did find out that it takes 2.5 to 3.5 years for them to generate the amount of energy that was used to produce them. Kinda interesting. I also found that a solar panel's average carbon footprint is about 72g of CO2 per KWH. I assume that equates to the amount of CO2 used to produce them distributed over the life of the panel. Also interesting. I also found some energy return on energy investment figures - "It is the ratio of the amount of usable energy acquired from a particular energy resource to the amount of energy expended to obtain that energy resource."

biodiesel = 1.3
coal = 80
hydro = 100
nuclear with diffusion enrichment = 10
nuclear with centrifuge enrichment = 50-75
nuclear with breeder reactors = not in the list but its probably much higher
photovoltaic = 6.8
wind = 18

I have no idea how accurate this info is but I thought it was kinda cool. ...and now I understand why coal is so popular.

I was speaking to a service provider of mine in Vancouver. He knows I am favour of the pipeline and he is against. He explained to me that they are not protesting against using oil at the present time and transported via the existing pipelines. They want a complete stoppage in any new developments which will push industry to bring out greener ways of energy. In other words, if we keep building new infrastructures to accommodate longer term reliance on oil then there is no incentive for new energy sources. That was his opinion.

I understand the philosophy. How in the hell do they think there will be enough energy in wind and solar to consistently keep everything running (homes, offices, rapid transit, all the stores in the service industry, all the construction, the big jets flying, the trains moving, the ships still moving goods and cruises, etc..)?

The system now can't handle the extremes (January cold and July heat). It is going to be years and what are we going to do in the meantime. Pipelines need to be replaced and upgrades need to be done. I understand searching for "greener methods" and it is a lofty goal but in the meantime and the foreseeable future…………………………??????

I realize you are just the messenger Dennis but some of those types have great big blinders on.

I agree 100% Doug and I basically said the same to him. He went further to say that he strongly believes there is a bigger conspiracy to our energy needs as the oil companies will do anything to stop and governments too. Either way, if I were an oil exec I would look at continuing oil exploration etc but also invest in research into new energy ways for the future. They should look at their corporations as an energy provider regardless where it comes from then they will be ahead of the game in 50-100 years. What do I know though……. I just sell agri commodities :cool:

They do already .. Most big oil companies are on the cutting edge of technology in search of the next great green energy solution .
Why on earth would they not be ?
They also realize that it is decades away with a very slow & large infrastructure changeover required .
Also it has to be done in an economical viable way , so we can all afford it ...
I think they are trying and it is not as easy as the greenies think it is .

Of course when the facts lead to this it must be some
" big oil conspiracy "
Such is life ...,

...might actually be easier than we all think. Too good to be true? I hope not. Skeptical at first, I've followed E-Cat for several years now and it's looking more and more like the real deal. Celani Wants More LENR collaboration, UN Agency | E-Cat = Rossi Cold Fusion

Tell your friend that's as stupid as protesting developments in the auto industry so that more people will revert to using horse and buggy or as stupid as protesting computer development so we can go back to slide rules. The left definately do think differently.

Biggest issue is it takes so much non renewable energy to create the products that use green or renewable energy

Go down to the US and talk to the people who have solar & wind power in there back yard ... They are not overjoyed about it , I can tell you that ...
While better forms of renewable energy are evolving every day , it's not as easy as build it and they will come ....
Some people ( mostly young urban ) who have only flown over our country ( some don't own a car) have no idea of the logistics of moving product across mountain ranges, let alone the globe ...
Electric long haul semis & solar powered container ships are a long ways off ....not with standing the fact the aforementioned people don't even take the logistics issues into account .

actually he is not a lefty. He has voted conservative all his life. I know several people against the pipeline that are conservative so this is not an issue with your political preference imo. Anyway, he is not much of a friend just a contact in business.
