Just finished repairing the 09 Rmk with the kit. I sold it and found out a little after a month that the top end was gone. Of course it was off warranty and Polaris told me to go pound dirt. Have to say that after 20 yrs of buying Polaris I'm thinking of getting rid of 2012 pro I have and buying BRP. Wouldn't have an issue if the engine wasn't garbage right from the factory and hadn't been rebuilt once already. Who rebuilds the top end twice within 600 miles? Considering the retro Polaris came out with originally apparently wasn't worth the shipping box it came. I guess I didn't have anything better with the $2500 plus it cost me. Anyone else out there running into this issue?

I agree the old 800 CFI4 motor was/is junk........ but be careful what you wish for. Do some searches on any forum on BRP 800 motors. Maybe not in 600 miles, but its a pretty safe bet anywhere around 2000 miles your rebuilding a 800r. There are exceptions to this for the 800R motors but more than what people let on to believe go down. Its kind of a dirty little secert that nobody wants to talk about.

Even the new mighty e-tec is I think to smart for itself in some cases. Do some searches on it...... Detuning because of "heat", erratic RPM's, bogging etc. I personally know of two of them that are battling these little "smart" demons.

Nice first post, word of advice proof read your post before allowing people to read you convoluted story. Maybe it's just me but a little clarity might be in order, if I am understanding you correctly the 09 has gone through two top ends, but the Pro is ok, and you are selling it to prove a point? If you are saying the Pro's motor has gone down twice in 600 miles I call bs, and if you aren't full of chit you must be doing something wrong because the failures in those has been very limited.

I have an 09 Assault with worse problems...4 motors in 1100 miles. Every year I've pulled the rope it's ate a motor (two the first season). For a stock machine right out of the box, that's really sad (even wrote a nasty letter). If I'd known that it would cost an extra 5 grand to get it into running shape I would have turned around and walked out the door. Polaris could give a chit. It's no wonder they payed Chris Burandt a butt load to come over to Polaris...no one there could figure out why the brand loyalty was dropping??? The Pro's are much better engines and they went back to two injectors. The "Fix" is the answer for the CFI 4 models but once again Polaris depends on aftermarket companies to fix their screwups. I thank my lucky stars for Chris because if it wasn't for him, they would still be the biggest pieces of chit out there, their R&D blows a bag of donkey wiener. I know all the other brands have their downfalls, but if you treat your bankroll, who have been buying the same brand for years, like chit...words going to get out!!!!

There 800 Dragon is the reason I ride a Summit now. I rent though 5 engines and they called me after I sold it to come get motor 6, they said that there might be an issue with that motor! Mine ran great until it hit 1430km and I sold it at 1690km, that's about 100km an engine! The dealer rebuilt the motor new crank and every thing and it did not make it out of the shop! That's sad!

I've got an 2010 800 Dragon and I love it. Hasn't missed a beat (except for the voltage reg at 0.5 hours.) I'm not really running the crap out of it, though, like some guys.

Is there something I could be checking to prevent engine problems?

Don't get me wrong I loved the sled, it rode nice climbed nice was easy to through around. But just ate engines. I don't think you can check anything just wait that's all! I have heard if your head light goes dim you don't have much time left. Mine was when it would stall going into reverse start heading fir the truck.

Ya the post needs to be clarified. The dragons chassis had weak motors as everyone found out, but the PMS kit rocks ass and isnt to much to get installed and dialed in right. After the rebuilt from Chris at Parkland wow, the dragon rocks and I love it. Still not as light and easy to throw around as a pro.

BRP has a 3 year warranty on the engine. How can you go wrong with that? It's what sold me over the Polaris. And it's canadian...

Pretty sure the Polaris sleds are offered with a 3 year warranty (or 2 year optional).

Fixed it for you. There is a difference. It's a Quebec company that we Canadians subsidize to stay in business.

Buy the book. There is a book. It explains everything about Bombardier and the Canadian governments dealings with each other. After you read it you may actually realize that you are a Canadian and not a misinformed bigot. BRP ( Bombardier Recreational Products) is owned by Bain Capital a US company, A Quebec based bank and the Bombardier family. Do your research PLEASE!

It's easier to be a bigot. Fact doesn't matter, you can just make chit up or repeat crap other bigots say as fact. See above.

You don't know the facts. The Canadian government did subsidize the planes and trains portion of Bombardier. The recreactional division was split years ago and has never received a $.
