Just a question Rowdy. Will the City of Calgary recognize names from outside of the city for a petition that involves a change of use for city land. It might be worth asking first? They may only recognize Calgary taxpayers on the petition?

I'm not sure but I want to get the petition going with as many signatures as possible then approach the city. I want to basically go to them with a proposal and plan not just an idea

Just a heads up you may want to check with the city of Calgary as a lot of places do not accept online petitions as there is no way to properly verify signatures and locations

Well today I have contacted the City of Calgary and gotten the number of who I need to talk to, emailed a friend in politics and will be emailing the Canadian Avalanche center to see if they can offer some support and assistance. Please sign and share the petition, it would be great to reach 1000 signatures.

I had no idea how many people were unaware of what a beacon basin actually is so I have updated the facebook event and the petition page. For those of you that don't know what a beacon basin is, it is a training system created to make it easier for recreationists and pros to practice with their transceivers. It features 4-8 permanently buried transmitters wired to a central control panel. To change the scenario, just flick the on/off switches on the control panel. Instead of digging holes and reburying beacons all day, you spend your valuable time actually practicing with your transceiver.

The fact that so many people don't know what it is just shows how badly people need to be educated about avalanche awareness and practice more with their transceivers! Come on folks, sign this thing!

I can't make this happen on my own, and all I need are signatures from people at this point. Please sign, this is a great cause that will benefit all back country users. This will encourage people to practice BEFORE they head to the mountains!

Ok people, I am a little taken back at the lack of signatures going up for this. There are so many people on here preaching avalanche safety and awareness, well here is your opportunity to DO something about it. I'm asking for signatures, not money or blood.

I have contacted the City of Calgary's alderman for the area and left a voicemail. Also contacted MEC, Atmosphere and the University of Calgary. There are so many people, groups and organizations that could benefit from having this within the city limits. Help me make this happen, take 30 seconds, fill out the simple form and sign.

I too was blown away by how few have signed. Even if you are from the surrounding area, you can benefit from this and I'm sure the City of Calgary will recognize those signatures.
