Hardly residential.. It's a road that is outside a neighbourhood...That would be equivalent to Whitemud in places..aside from the lane #'s

OOPS you must be joking again.. LOL

Remember they don't get snow in Cali and the limits may be also reflective for winter conditions

here is a street in california i was staying on. 55mph residential area. oh and look a bike lane LOL. a road similar to that in alberta would be 30mph

to put it into perspective our 3-4 lane FREEWAY whitemud is slower than that residential street.

What kills me is you can drive 110 on Deerfoot and get away with it but go 5km over in BC and bingo! Its your lucky day!

I've drove here legally for over 35 years and never, ever got a ticket for 5 km over. 50 km yes, but 5 km not likely. I always set my cruise 10 km over the speed limit and have met countless cops on the hiway doing this and never got a ticket yet.
Maybe you have a rep over here snopro...................................................................just sayin ;)

Another intelligent Ab vs BC comment. I have gotten far more tickets in AB then I have in BC. That being said BC doesn't have photo radar.

Whats the need to drive that fast through a residential subdivision? Who are you running from. Speeds are set accordingly for public safety. How would you feel if it was your family member that got killed because someone was doing 90km past your house or the guilt you would have if you took out someone elses kid.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should

Actually Maxwell, it is a very frightening experience hitting a child with a car. It happened to me when I was in my 20's

the girl just ran out from between 2 cars. Luckily I wasn't speeding, and I wasn't charged because she wasn't hurt too bad. Kids are just that... Kids.

I am all for slowing the residential to 40km/h.

I signed the petition not for the reason they want it, but for the cash grab. Obviously the money isn't paving the streets...

yah there is a residential street thats 50 by my house, seems waaaaay to fast specially when people drive 10 over everywhere. i drive 40 on it, there is a new school going up so its going to be half 50 half 30 soon enough anyways but people line the thing in the summer going to the spray park or soccer games no need to drive 50-60 down there. but im all for speedways and highways being fast, its not the speed that kills its distracted driving.

Almost right, its not the speed that kills. Its usually a sudden impact or stop the does the killing. Distracted or not.

I went Kamloops to Calgary and back this weekend 20 over except in and around towns I was 10 over. Wasn't hassled in the least.

And about 30 over on the deerfoot to go with traffic lol.

I was pretty happy when photo came in and speeds trap numbers began dwindling. Both cost you money but the photo tickets won't get your license pulled.

Really says a lot about you if you feel that speeding through residential areas or even worse school zones is ok, and , if you believe that photo radar has even a remote impact on keeping speeds down on our roads or public safety, you need to give your head a shake , it's about the money.
My suggestion would be every morning , park a marked police car at random school zones around the city, and watch the brake lights come on and the speeds diminish . once in a while make it manned , and hand out a few tickets.
Same on hiways, always lots of off duty cop cars around, if you believe it's about people following speed limits.
Me, I'm a cynic, I think the money is the main motivating factor with most police authorities.

I don't think anyone here is saying speeding or raising the limit in residential and school zones is ok or an issue. It's the main arteries that need a bump in limit. And that's a damn good idea about the marked coo cars doesn't even have to be a full on police car just the decals!

i agree and often push that limit to 15-20km over on the hwy's only... will do 20 over without a problem on a posted limit of 110km/h... never get their attention... with a posted limit of 100km/h i get the cops flashing me at 120 so i drop down to about 115 and never an issue... only ticket i ever got was on hwy 1 through the fraser canyon in Hope where the speed limit on the double lanes is 90km/h... i was going 16kmp/h over at 106 and got a ticket... i can live with that!

But photo radar sucks and like someone said doesn't slow a person down... how is it BC found photo radar illegal or unconstitutional and in AB we still have it.... for all the making fun of BC'ers we do they sure got that one right...

its a cash cow! Think about it... we got city cops, high cops, sherrifs and town cops all writing speeding tickets... its a TAX people

It,s a sin tax, no different than cigarettes or alcohol. All of which you can choose to do or not. Sure it generates a lot of revenue, but with city budgets for policing dwindling, what are the options!? We could get rid of photo radar and add cops to the roads, butt hat costs a lot of money and the offset could only be achieved by raising fines to crazy high levels and/or raising property taxes. I don't mind paying taxes for more cops, but I certainly don't want to be paying for cops just to catch those that choose to speed.

It's really quite simple...don't speed and photo radar will not have any impact on your life. If no one was paying out photo radar fines, there would be no photo radar.

As for increasing speeds on main arteries, they did look into it. Problem they found was that people would not adjust their speed to conditions and continue to follow posted limits even if weather conditions warranted otherwise. Yup, people are dumb enough that if the Henday was posted at 110, people would do 110 on ice. They balance speed with conditions, and in a winter city, the conditions can suck. Again, catering to the lowest common denominator. Ideally we need summer and winter speeds posted....but then you would need more police and photo radar to enforce it.

Getting a ticket for going with the flow of traffic is a joke, But something needs to be done. I don't know what the answer is. Between the ease of getting a drivers licence, New Canadians, Construction, Traffic lights (yellowhead) and what ever problems you can think of. Edmonton is one of the worst city's to drive in. People drive around like there pissed off all the time. I don't know what the answer is, but people need to slow it down. stop texting and pay attention. it sucks being late on the Anthony Hyundia because someone got rear ended by someone not paying attention. The photo radar is not popular, but if we were not speeding we not have any issues. I sometimes speed, A few times a year I do get tickets in the mail. i dont bitch about it. its my fault. Yes the city spent a lot of money on this. of course they fudged it up. it's the government lol it will take some time, but it will pay it's self off one day. I hope thats more money they can use for road repair.

happy trailes everyone

I know the answer, move to a small town,I don hurry any where. When I want to go sledding I walk out the door and go,no loading or unloading lots of fresh powder because it seems every one with a mountain sled is scared to leave the trail, really don't get that one.

On second thought don't move here,if every body moves here then it,ll be like living in edmonton
