You can pan right now. Low waters are good cause you can get in under the bigger rocks that are normally under water. You will be able to see where the sand settles and dig around in there. Anywhere you can find moss and sand mixed together is good. The moss holds the gold in it's fibers. Just put it in the pan with a couple handfuls of larger rock and swish away. Like said before watch for black sand, quartz, chunks of coal, they are all indicators that tell you gold may be present.

Perfect!!! Thank you. Looks like we can begin our adventure this week!

Bring warm water proof clothing, it will be cold HAHA

roger that Swat!
I'm a fisher person... thus all my fishing metaphors.... got some waders and fingerless neoprin gloves kicking around

I'm thinking if I can find good sand in the river I'll bring it home and let the water get to room temp then set the kids loose in the basement panning so they can practice their technique.

Just the name "commercial solutions" tells me your gonna spend way to much money. Most or all sporting goods shops will bring the gold pans in for you. Canadian tire also carries them. Get the green plastic ones with "steps" on one side they are $12 each. You will need a small cheap gardening shovel for loading your pans and rooting around in the mud their cheap. A rock hammer is a good tool to have for busting rocks apart to find indicators but not a must have and can cost around $40. I just use an old welding hammer I had kicking around. You will also need a little tiny suction bottle for collecting your gold from the bottom of the pan. I think I paid $3 for mine. That's it....your rigged.

now all i can say is you never know till you go find out. crap tire has never been cheap. these guys cater to the industry, forestry, mining and survey fields. about as cheap as i could find. but use info as you may, just giving places to look, what do i know?

Have a look old timer. I even called the 1-888-522-9822 number for a closest location. These guys do carry the equipment but are way over priced for the average recreational Joe.....But what do I know.

If you are ever in Nelson stop by the Chamber Of Mines (across from the rec centr)..Im pretty sure that they used to do a panning course there....Also Dave at the Kaslo Mining Museum is always a good guy to talk to about good areas to explore!

So... we don't really know what we are doing... but we had a great first day. . On this part of the goat there is a public claim.. so we went panning...

The kids watched the Gold panning DVD so they were very good little instructors as far as technique

how cold was that water on the hands?!?

loks like it was a beauty sunshiney day for ya!:d

he has his motorfist hoodie... lol.. We didn't plan on wearing them at the same time.. it just happened that way lol.

It was a beautiful day.. the water wasn't too cold at all. Mostly just the pan went in not our hands.

Rookie was sooo well behaved today.. she hasn't had the opportunity to swim just yet and was taken by surprise when the land suddenly dropped off and she was swimming in the back water. Lola tried to get her in again, but it was a no go lol.

Looks like a beauty day on the goat. Have you ever heard of the gold laden mule train that was lost in a snow storm up the goat? Lost coming down the malindine into the goat somewhere...

no I haven't heard that story.. I'm going to share this with the kids and we can research it!! Thank you :) :) :) :) :)

The kids love the unique history from this area. Their favorite is the story of the 3 elephants that escaped the circus train a long time ago. We even saw the press release.

ola there young gun, i just called commercial solutions, and got a few price quotes on some stuff, yes i have an account, seems like prices quoted were more than reasonable. 51" sluice for $132, gold pans $9 for a 14" 3 stage pan, checked out bedrock supply seems to be a little more. you could hunt the net and save a few sheckles, but what do i know:beer:
