I would look at the stampede as well . Way better driveline than the ranger / with all its recall issues .
Don't see many prowlers out there / very few .
Stay away from the 1000 prowler though , lots of engine issues ..
The defender is an awesome unit ,with great proven reliability.
Used certainly limits your choices Ina utility unit as unlike a sport model
,they are usually kept for a long time ....

Rzrgrad why do you always have a kick against Polaris? Often make comments about poor this or bad that, recall recall recall blah blah blah. Where do you get your info? Perhaps what you witness is operator abuse or personal lack of matenence. I have asked you before if you have ever seen these failures when you kept going on and on about the machines burning up and you ignored the comment. Obviously Polaris is doing something right when the rest of the market is trying to play catch up.

Seems to me like whatever you have is the best and the rest is no good for nothing.

Unless you have first hand experience how are you able to comment on what is good and what isn't?

I have owned a 900 ranger , it was great ...BUT
But it did have its recalls and issues ...fact .
Do you think Polaris would recall it for fun? It costs millions to do that !
The fact is Polaris recently has been plagued with recalls . Not my opinion, this is just a fact ,
So yes I DO have first hand experience .

Replaced axles ...,junk
Voltage regulator...
Power steering issues....constantly.
And of course crappy bushings / bearings and miscellaneous driveline Chinese parts , that have become OEM on most new Polaris ohvs.

And sooner or later you worry about the dreaded reverse chain issue ...
Big $$$ repair .
So I sold it ...
Bought a Maverick , and yes imo,it is a far better quality machine .
Have you owned a ranger ?

You had the 800 if I remember correctly? The defended would be 10 times better then the 800. The 900 ranger is 10 times better then the 800. I like some of the ideas on the defender!

Yes I had the 800. It was a great machine. We used the living heck out of it and never had a minutes trouble. We just find the defender so much smoother and well put together. Really nice machine. The only thing I would say Im "disappointed" with is the lack of power on the defender 1000. Not a big deal for us as we always have 3 kids with us so basically just putting around, but for someone expecting a powerhouse.....its going to be a disappointment.

You must also remember that since the 800 ranger , times have changed .
There are many new competitors out there ...
Likes of the defender/ stampede / Honda 1000
Etc...
More choices / the bar gets raised .

Yes I had the 800. It was a great machine. We used the living heck out of it and never had a minutes trouble. We just find the defender so much smoother and well put together. Really nice machine. The only thing I would say Im "disappointed" with is the lack of power on the defender 1000. I seem to recall a few having to build a trap door to be able to put out maverick fires, Why no recall? Ranger is nothing more than making sure an aluminum plate doesn't come loose over easily accessible engine header pipe. Loctite 2 half inch screws, Takes a generous 20 minutes.

Yeah my 800 always ran perfect (other than an air intake sensor that caused hard cold starting, just had to clean it). Sounds like the textrons have the potential to be incredible machines.

What about the cheap bearings in the transmission ... tell us how that worked out .....?

how many axles did you actually break? and with 32 inch tires?


as to bearing yes i took it out, overabused it, running sxs tracks, still be running it on 25-26 tires it came with, may never have broken an axle either! how many recalls has the Maverick had? i could look it up if you'd like! from what i have seen lately brp products can't seem to balance on four wheels,

seem to be seeing and hearing a few brp trans failures etc. big money being spent to get clutching to work, and to get 4 wheel drive. lol.

Yes I do own a Ranger, and several other Polaris items. Your comparing a Ranger to a Maverick and that's not really apples to apples. Anyone can go online and read forum after forum listing any brands faults and come to a conclusion that any item is "junk" but without first hand experience the comments are really just hot air. I myself in a quick google search brought up countless problems and issues with the Can Am ranging from weak front rods to clutch problems and yes even a few fires. Never having witnessed such events can't say for certain if the product is junk or not. I don't think anyone is or has ever questioned the recall Polaris made, and in my opinion its simply brand protection, maybe liability issues as well, but seems to me the issue has been corrected. Whatever brand your ride wouldn't you want them to make the same decision? Im certainly not trying to put the Can Am down as it is a nice machine I am just simply stating that because they don't seem to be a particular brand of your doesn't make the Polaris line up any less and you are no more then just blowing hot air. For what purpose I don't know but you do seem to take every opportunity to discredit them. Dose it make you feel better to put one brand down? Does your Maverick gain confidence by having its owner bash another brand?

No it simply my observation or opinion . Feel free to chit all over it , I really do not care ...one way or the other .

If you choose to bury your head in the sand ,fly at it ... fact is these are real issues ...Do you think they are recalling these machines for a PR stunt ?
Check the class action lawsuits getting started .

If you had bothered to read my posts from years ago , you woul realize that I stood behind popo a lot.
Sadly , I have watched their quality control decline and issues rise ....

Rest assured I don't really care if you agree with this or not , but it is my opinion and I have owned enough popos
to notice the decline in quality.
obviously the recalls and sharp drop in sales seem to back up my opinion... though.
These are not online google search opinions either , I have owned all the rzrs ( lots) popo quads ( still have one ) and other popos I am referring too.
When they broke , I paid the bills ...
So these are FIRST hand facts , not forum BS .

If you would rather say otherwise, that's fine ....

Probably not actual facts but according to "Ride Now" of the top ten best selling SxS in 2016, 6 out of 10 were from the Polaris line up
