One reason to fasten your sled deck multiple ways

One of our units got clipped on the back corner of the deck. Turnbuckles only and crappy ones at that. Destroyed the box , cab , rear window, oh and pushed into the building so front end too. Not sure if being bolted to the box would have been better or not. But just a heads up. Always been a turnbuckle fan until this happened.

this is my truck right now Sean, only bolted, no turn buckles........ Broken box corners..... How to repair?

Going to Parkland Welding next week, they are building brackets that come off the frame and along the bed of the truck, this will put all the jounce and whatever onto the frame instead of the truck box..... I will still be bolting & turnbuckling when I put the deck back on.

I'm assuming it didn't get clipped by a ford focus.
if it was bolted to the box, you would probably see some different damage.
How much damage to the deck?

i fully agree, bolts with plates,turnbuckle with jam nuts, is how i had mine secured, took out a moose last winter, which wrote off truck and sled deck,and deck did not move,did not loose sleds, did break hooks(factory) with superclamp on one side. so yes i agree secure deck

Big part of the problem is the front of the boxes are paper thin.

Need to make sure you have plywood or 2x4 to take up any gap between the head of the box and the legs.

Factory tie downs suck too.

Someone needs to design tie down points that tie into the frame somehow or use the factory 5th wheel mounts.......

2x4 to take up the gap is a good suggestion. Thanks for the idea.

I put my deck in this way with brackets to the frame. It was solid and never came loose. Did still break my box though from the legs flexing. If I was to run a deck again I would probably put down 3/4 plywood first but still do the frame brackets.

If the deck suffered a rear impact I dunno if the outcome would of been any different, if it had been bolted as well.

I'll be doing exactly that, 3/4 plywood between box and deck legs plus the new brackets underneath. I'm also having them weld the nut to the bracket to make it easier to remove the deck (no more 2 guys to unbolt)

Mounted mine on rubber pads. Crank the camper tie downs. Wire them so no backing off. Jus had to follow Rene a couple times to figure out your deck needs to be solid. Reverse rd comes to mind all 60 fukn k of it. Busted front passenger shock tower mount in Shanks Chev. Thank fuk for ratchet straps.

I often thought they should sign them to slide into your fifth wheel hitch with a pin like a trailer and lock it in, wouldn't go anywhere then but you would loose cargo space underneath which sucks, is the tradeoff worth it?, dunno.

I agree. If bolted to frame likely less damage but just bolted through the box sheetmetal it likely would have contacted the cab just the same as the sandwiched bolt would just tear and bend the flimsy box.

Not to mention the thieves are to lazy to crawl under the truck and undo the bolts.
