So is your beacon transmitting a signal???? Who have i seen checking for this in the parking lots and mountains.... not a single person.

Our riding group does a beacon check before we head out. But I have heard of beacons malfunctioning, and electronics can interfere with a beacon's signal as well (cell phones, radios, MP3 players, etc).

Last season when I took my AST1 as we were doing beacon range checks my new beacon was transmitting but was only sending out for less than 10 meters.
All beacons should be checked every time you strap it on.
I could of used it to search but if there would of been a slide and I was buried my chances of being found were not good.
It does not take much time, you can do this while your sled is warming up.
I would not of known this had I not taken that AST1 coarse.

I would hope to see no faulty beacons, when did they quit? I have heard of more than one guy sending his beacon back because it was not working. Their reply back, you where treating them to rough and abusing them???? What the hell do you think an avalanche is going to do to your product. Like i said before Scary. If my memory serves me correct one of the guys was DaveB
Yup...I sent back a Barryvox. They didn't warranty it, so no more Mammut products for me.

That is absolutely Brutal, my heart goes out to Friends and Family of those riders. I am new to sledding this year and just moved to Chetwynd, I plan on doing a lot of riding near Prince George this winter. That mans death may have saved my life. I will be buying a Beacon and Pulse pack this season and only riding with riders who have a beacon as well.

If there is anything good that could come from losing Dallas, I am sure this is it. I am so glad to hear you will be following these rules. 1 more thing though , PLEASE take an AST 1 course. There are lots out there to choose from.
