$3000 will get you a mid - late 90's headache. Yamaha had nothing that was even on the radar during the time that a now used sled would be in that price range.

You asked not for other recommendation but too bad!!. Look for a 670 summit in your price range. :realmad:

check out what is on kijji, there are usually some good deals there. you may need to pay a little more for a viper, but they are a really good sled as long as they have the a.t.t.e.c. system in them. which means no jetting or nothing just pull and go. they are awesome on gas too.:):)

my 98 summit 670 H.O. is reliable and is one of the most bullet proof motors ever put in a sled and does well over 90mph

i agree with most of the other posters, the mountain max 700 was a great sled my one recomendation as told to me by many others is make sure its the newer model with the heated carbs. makes a world of difference. helps with ice up and gives better mileage on colder days

Been a Yammy guy since 91 and I agree they are super reliable. Viper might be a little out of your price range, but an MM700 done up with a few mods is still a great mountain sled even today.
See if you can find one with a drop&roll and a set of pipes. If you don't mind the drive check online in BC....lots of wacked out Yammy's there.

Good luck

I've got a 2001 MM700 w/ approx. 6000 km's on it. SLP pipes, extrovert drivers, reed spacers, vari-flow. It has been a good reliable sled and hasn't left me on the hill yet unlike my XP. I had it listed here last year for sale but no offers. Still have it sitting in the garage....Hehehe it was faster than Rusty's M8.

Definitely the MM 700 is the way to go. I just sold a 1999 and a 2000. They were awesome sleds. Excellent gas mileage for a triple. The 2000 had almost 6000 kms on it and the engine had never been touched but was till going strong.
You'll need to put a handlebar riser on it as they sit quite low and as mentioned earlier, tons of mods you can do to em. The tracks were 141" and that was the only reason I sold them as I wanted to get some longer tracks.
