Thinking about making the 15 hr drive from Alberta to Whistler. Just wondering how the conditions are and if it's worth the drive. Don't know the area at all. What are the areas that one would ride?

Whistler/Brandywine main riding is 4500-6000. Vale 5500-8000, Pemby is 5500-8000.
That being said, Pemberton is hands down the best riding in the world, bar none. It can't be explained, it has to be experienced. I wish you the best this year. Spread the Pemby word. I also wish more sledders would join the Pemby club. That's a lot kms for a smaller club to groom.

it was the best snow i've ever experienced. thanks ray for the heads up on elevation. and a shout out to chris with ride whistler, what a down to earth guy and awesome guide and teacher. i'll definitely be making that trip again. the girlfriends 146 could have used a little more track though.

Got pretty warm the last 2 days (around 8 degree at 2000m) but some snow in the forecast later this week for 1200m+.

Up Rutherford today and it was fine once you got to elevation. Icy groomed on the morning to the cabin, definitely scratchers down, a little snow from there and good conditions starting around the moulin. Surprisingly good visibility with the sun just showing thru the overcast given what it looked like at the valley bottom. Didn't break thru enough to toast the snow.

On Monday, March 20, 2017, Natural Resource Officers, a Park Ranger and a Conservation Officer conducted a joint helicopter patrol in the Sea to Sky Region. Six males were charged, and fined $230 each, for riding their snowmobiles into the signed, non-motorized area of the Callaghan Conservancy near Whistler. This is a pristine area in BC that is closed to the use of motorized vehicles. The BC Government is reminding people to respect Crown Land/backcountry resources and ensure that your activities are authorized for the area you will be visiting.
During the same helicopter patrol, another male was charged for cutting Crown Timber without authority. The male was camping for an extended period of time in the Brandywine Meadows area of Whistler. The male was cutting dead standing trees and live trees without authority. The male was also issued a Trespass Notice under the Land Act and ordered to vacate the site. The area is located in the sub alpine, adjacent to a Wildlife Habitat Area, protecting sensitive habitat for Grizzly Bears.

Going to ride Friday but heading to the CAA AGM on Saturday. Conditions are great. Unloading at 5KM at the Rutherford and 9.5K on the Hurley

You may have seen a news report late last week describing how the Mayor of Whistler, BC sent a letter to
CNRL and other energy producers asking them to pay $1.5 million each for the cost of climate change on
its community. In response to this request, the energy industry boycotted an investor conference being
hosted by CIBC in Whistler in January. Furthermore, CIBC has since cancelled the energy component of
this conference.
I am very pleased that the oil and gas sector stood up to defend our industry and sent a message to the
town of Whistler explaining that climate change is a complex issue that cannot be solved with criticisms of
the Canadian Oil and Gas industry. We continue to see rhetoric similar to what Whistler put forward that is
not based on facts and is not in this country’s best interests. To clarify, Canada’s oil and gas industry
contributes only 0.31% of global emissions. Canada, as a country, contributes only about 1.5% of GHG
emissions and most of these are a result of us living in a cold country that requires us to heat our homes
and a large country that requires us to drive longer distances. Hydrocarbons are necessary for us to
maintain the standard of living that we all enjoy. They are also required to bring many areas of the world
out of poverty and to improve their standard of living. It is estimated that world energy demand will grow
by 27% over the next 21 years as the population grows and many regions of the world move out of
poverty. Canadian oil and gas can and should play a significant role in providing this energy. A few other
facts that you should be aware of are as follows:
§ Not only do Canadian producers adhere to the highest standards of pollution control,
environmental responsibility, and respect for human rights, they actually surpass most (if not all) of
the other hydrocarbon producing regions of the world. If Canadian standards for GHG emissions
were adopted by other oil and gas producing countries, GHG emissions would drop by 23%.
§ Canadian natural gas will significantly lower worldwide GHG emissions. For example, gas from
one LNG plant in Canada exported to Asia will displace up to 40 coal fired plants with each plant
producing approximately 65% fewer emissions when converted to gas. Global GHG emissions
from these plants could be lowered by 60 to 90 million tonnes of CO2 per year - an amount
greater than BC’s total emissions as a province.
§ LNG made and shipped from BC to Asia is 55% less carbon intensive than LNG made and shipped
from the US gulf coast to Asia.
§ Between 2014 and 2016, our industry provided an approximate average of $12 billion annually to
governments that is used to provide healthcare, roads, schools and all other government services.
MEMORANDUM
The world will need more energy and, based on the facts provided, Canada should be the preferred
supplier of this energy. Blocking Canadian pipelines and shipping will only increase global GHG emissions.
In contrast, supporting energy development in Canada will have a more positive impact than letting the
rest of the world fill the required global demand.
We should be proud of our industry and I was pleased to see a number of companies defending it by
boycotting the CIBC Whistler Conference. Similarly, I ask you to consider supporting establishments and
organization that, in turn, support our industry rather than those what would see us limited or shut down.
Organizations such as Whistler and Lush Cosmetics, for example, have openly stated that they are opposed
to Canadian oil and gas development. Please take this into account when making your purchasing
decisions. Canada is the safest and most responsible energy producing country in the world and the
world needs more Canadian Energy.

Well....we have not had any significant snow for a while now. Whistler area got a little bit last week but nothing really epic at the moment to be honest. Long term forecast looking sunny and dry until the end of the month but as usual, those can easily change.

Snow in alpine has been wind hammered. There are still lots of pockets in the trees with good pow. Lots of ice caves to go look at
