It is interesting that they mention "government subsidies" to other lines as one of the reasons. In our neck of the woods, BCTransit runs small buses between communities. I've never asked but are the rides free, heavily subsidized, or free for particular circumstances??
It doesn’t surprise me that they shut it down. Other then shipping when was the last time you heard of people taking the bus? I can’t remember the last time I heard someone talking about taking one!
Interesting. They just moved their operation here in Victoria to a new location. I guess it was proactive for the shut down and the new place was a short term plan. ****ty deal for the workers! I’ve seen the same guys working counter for as many years as I’ve been picking up and shipping large items through them. Not young guys either.
Tough market to service with mostly a transient consumer base.... Red Arrow has cherry picked it's routes and offered a much upgraded service for not much more $$$, kinda like Air Canada Vs. West-jet, west-jet will always have the advantage because they are not the "national carrier" and not obligated to provide financially unfeasible destinations like Goose Bay, Bathurst & Williams Lake. Unsubsidized Air Canada would also limit it's routes.
I saw a report that after the beheading years ago less people starting using greyhound. it was the beginning of the end for the company and the poor guy who lost his head...
