Really makes no sense.
Only thing i can think is either they’re pulling out of the mountain segment which I can’t see. Or they’ve got something really big coming down the pipe and they know once the come out with it the old ones will never sell so they need to get rid of them before they drop whatever it is they’ve got up their sleeve

Where’s climbmax we need some insight

pretty sure they are pulling out of it like most big companies do when they see a trend. beat it before it sinks. Majority want a 2 stroke mountain sled and the Yamaha version of that is the alpha.

they could have kept what they had last year though guys were enjoying those.

Which is why it makes no sense, 3 guys in our group are really taking a long hard look at sidewinders after riding 1. they were headed in the right direction for sure, I'd drop my pro and switch tomorrow if I could get a good dollar for my 17

Unless they are making damn sure all the old stock MTX sidewinders are sold before they release something new so they dont have the fiasco they did with the Vipers when the sidewinder was released. ...

Glad they didn’t come out with anything. Makes my 18 SW worth something instead of my 13 turbo nytro which is 3 gens old and can’t give away.

I believe they have a plan and that includes making sure the current Sidewinder mtx will hold its value...coming out with something completely different would disregard the statement they made for last season(balance the market). As much as today’s society relies on constant change to have the lastest and greatest, Yamaha has recognized and followed through with a promise to maintain balance. I give them kudos and firmly believe they are here to stay....including the mountain segment. I assume there will be plenty 17,18, and 19s mtx’s to satisfy for this year

Honestly no manufacturer has come out with anything drastically different...they are also pulling the reins back in my mind.

Sad to see but it appears Yamaha really isn't interested in stretching their legs in the mototized vehicle segments. I don't know how the stand alone dealers can stay in business to be honest with you. Southern Alberta has seen 3 or 4 dealers drop their Yamaha lines in the last couple years because of stagnant sales on all their motorized product. I feel sorry for Randy.

I'm surprise to see such shock on "no Yamaha mountain sled's".
It shouldn't be as Yamaha about a year ago in a statement said that there would be a huge cut back in the yearly production of certain model's and i believe mountain models were on the list.
There were a number of good reason's and one of them was to protect their dealer's and customer's investment in falling used prices.
Turblue knows of the article as he posted it on here. I'll try to find it when i have a chance.
I personally like the idea, basically keeps the value of my sled up. Plus i've had a few ask if its for sale LOL, everything for sale and the price is now going up...LOL

YAMAHA GOES ‘HEADS UP’ FOR 2019 WITH RELEASE OF SIDEWINDER SRX LE

Return of SRX, 5 LE Spring-Only Models, And Electric Start Snoscoot Highlight Enhanced 2019 Line-Up

March 6, 2018 – Yamaha has rocketed off the line into 2019 with the release of the all-new Sidewinder SRX LE, a snowmobile engineered for top speed fanatics who want the fastest production snowmobile ever built.

The SRX incorporates Yamaha’spotent Genesis 998 Turbo four-stroke motor into a lowered chassis, Camso Ripsaw 1 track with 1” lug and handlebar adjusted electronic Fox IQS suspension. SRX owners will exude confidence knowing their snowmobile is primed for heads up competition. To see the SRX in action, click here.

The SRX is one of 5 Yamaha Limited Edition (LE) models for 2019, others include Sidewinders in L-TX, X-TX, B-TX and M-TX variations. LEmodels incorporate upgraded features and graphics and are only available with a deposit during the Spring Power Surge sales program from March 6 – April 16, 2018.Further information on all 5 LE models, with their upgraded suspension, unique track options and additional accessories, can be found on Yamaha’s US and Canadian2019 Snowmobile Launch Pages.

The Snoscoot returns for 2019 with the addition of standard electric start, a flashy, new Orange colour scheme and more accessories than ever before. The Snoscoot was an instant fan favorite after its debut last year and these enhancements are sure to keep the Snoscoot in high demand.

What’s new at Yamaha is exciting, but what is notreturning is big news too.
2019 sees a number of units removed from the Yamaha line to address an inventory imbalance in the market place.

Yamaha Snowmobiles North American Team Leader Peter Smallman-Tew explains, “We want our dealers to have long-term, stable profitability. We can’t control snow, but we can ensure they are sellingprofitable, current model year snowmobiles. Right now, dealers have too many carry over models, so we need to correct that. One way to do this – an approach we and our competitors have traditionally adopted - is spend your way out by attaching big rebates and miniscule finance rates to carry over inventory. This will sell some snowmobiles, but it devalues the current yearmodels and affects ourrelationship with our loyal Spring deposit customers. It becomes a race to the bottom, and that is not healthy for the industry. Customers don’t want to buy current year units if those units will lose much of their value the following year because of rebates.”

Smallman-Tew explainedfurther, “For 2019, we’ve made a tough decision to limit our 2019 production to key, high volume snowmobiles and place even more emphasis on ourSpring Power Surge early deposit program. These measures will help to reduce dealer inventory and maintain greater value and demand for Yamaha snowmobiles. Ourdealers, and most importantly our customers, will enjoy ahealthier relationship with our brand.”

Customers keen to get their hands on a 2019 Yamaha snowmobile willwant to ensure they place a deposit in the spring, as some 2019 models like Sidewinder B-TX and Sidewinder M-TX will only beavailable in the spring.

On the topic of spring deposits,Yamaha’s Spring Power Surge program will be even more exciting for 2019. Apart from the usualincentives like accessory credits, extended warranty, and attractive finance rates, Yamaha intends to reward those customers who place a deposit and register a 2019 unit. Each customer will be entered into the SPS Sweepstakes, where they can win 1 of over 100 Yamaha prizes, including Pressure Washers and Generators. Not only that, but three ‘Win Your Purchase’ prizes areavailable to be won for customers who place a spring deposit. More information can be foundhere for the Canadian program and here for the US.

Yamaha is building off a strong 2018 and has boldly stepped into 2019 with the new Sidewinder SRX, an enhanced line-up and aggressive new Spring Power Surge sales program. The time to Conquer Snow is right now.

Complete model information is available at Yamaha-motor.ca or Yamahasnowmobiles.com

Still not sure how you figure the price of used sidewinders is going up, If I had the choice of a brand new leftover at a discounted price or an overpriced used sled I know what I'd do. I could see them holding their current value a little better as there's no new technology to go buy. If used was the only option then sure, but it sounds like there's lots of 17, 18 AND 19s left to buy at the dealer, and as long as people still have the option go buy new, your used one isn't worth any more to me
