Hey i currently ride a 15 xm 174

Time to upgrade, either sled will be upgrade compared to what i am riding. I can hold my own riding no problem

Question is big cost difference likely 10k difference. What are some issues with gen 4 turbo. and when i am looking at a used one what are some potential areas to inspect really well?

i have heard guys says they find the gen 4 easier to ride "lighter in the front end" compared to gen 5

either way im pumped, just want to ensure when buying used im aware of the potential failure points or issues to inspect thoroughly

G4T is pretty solid, last year of the G4 and 3rd year of the turbo motor. Cons is it handles like a G4 also fairly heavy and feels like it. There are some deals around on used G5 N/A's from 23/24 as most want the turbo.

22 G4T, some had injector tip problems. usually withing the first 1500km.

past that my 2021 turbo has been good. 5800km, gas n oil. First failure was last ride i had clutch tower support brace bolt rattle out.

personally G4-G5 is the same sled with some refinements. outside plasitics make a difference but the chssis overal is the same.

i’ll never be good enough to tell the difference but 90% or the skid was changed in the G5 according to doo. the noticeable xtra power of the turbo r lets me get to my next stuck quicker too!

I have had both, a 21 turbo and now a 23 turbo and it is no comparison in the handling dept, the 23 is way better, now for the price difference you really need to think about it because the problem that I am finding with these turbo"s is that they only have value on warranty and it is scary to think about a motor off warranty, about 8-9 k if one goes down and it seems like they are good to about 3000 kms and then its just a matter of time from what I have been told, I personally think it also depends on the owner on how its ridden and maintained but nobody reall wants to buy a used turbo once it has 4 or 5 k on it and the N/A sleds seem to have more lifespan and a lower initial investment probably means a lower loss at sale time, I guess it depends on whether you really want a turbo cuz the fun factor is awesome!

Sold my clean 2023 expert 165 NA for $18500 this fall to the first guy that looked at it, he could have bought a turbo r for the same price but choose the NA

I was sad at the time but, someone wanted my trailer & Nypex more than I did, it was stolen back in the fall of 2017. It took quite a bit of negotiating but, insurance came through and paid me out. I made out way better than if I was to sell it on my own.

What price would you guys be willing to pay for a used turbo with 5000km on it? It's a tough one. For me it would have to be one insane deal to consider it

Buddy of mine got one with high miles off Kuster for 7500$ a couple years ago. Seems about right.

I was in a similar situation as you. for me it came down to the fact if a motor went on the G4 the $7,000 + bill would be a season ender for me.

I picked up a clean 2023 G5 Expert N/A with lower km's for $13,500. The 850 and new chassis will be a huge upgrade for you and they are super fun machines even without the turbo.

What BAC's said X2. You owe it to yourself to just try a 2023 850 na. They are so much better than what you are riding. I know I had a 2015 xm 800 174 banana. Great sled but my g5 154 would run circles around it. My 2 cents.
