it's funny that this subject comes up today. I just finished my mandatory defensive driving course today and this was one of the subjects discussed in class. The instructors question was " what is the legal age in Alberta to qualify for a drivers license. The class answered correctly. His next question was, what is the legal age to operate a cell phone. No definitive answer from the class but considerable discussion. The problem is not so much with talking on the phone while driving but texting while driving. The instructor pointed out that he has instructed classes and found people texting while he was instructing the course.

I suggest that we all take a look at ourselves and ask ourselves. How much attention do I really pay to my driving. We as a society are getting way too complacent with our driving.

BTW I only scored 91% on my defensive course. I am ashamed.

There was a similar law put into effect here in bc last year. I still see half a dozen people a day(or more) driving around, on the phone. Its a joke

As long as you did not text or use your phone it is alright........

I talked to a fellow driver of yours told him it's your fault....

you sound like you're in a foul mood

you try walking around with your head at armpit level for a day and see how cheery you get

If you tall fawkers washed properly it probably wouldn't have such a negative impact on my mood

Think??? I AM ABOVE the law. I was actually contemplating when I was gonna come down on "the law".

Hey, I think I dropped the dip on the passenger side. Roads fairly straight here, think I'll quickly lean over and grab it.....

I know a guy that ran a loaded super B chip truck off the hwy into a swamp reaching for his dropped cellphone.

I know 2 guys that used to work at my place of employment.

Guy 1 drops his pack of smokes. Driving a loaded tri-axle pneumatic. Reaches down to grab them, drops the passenger side off the highway, yanks it back and rolls the unit. 5 minutes from the shop. Write off, guy lived.

Guy 2 is making a cheese sandwich while driving down the road, again grossing about 46,000 kgs. Drops his sandwich and has a near miss with some motorists and ends up in the ditch.

As mentioned earlier, people are just too complacent. Driving is a privelage, not a right. It is a big deal. People think whatever its only me, but you forget that your actions can affect those around you. You walk away, other guy doesn't. That is quite the burden too carry around the rest of your life.
