That might be a certain area but that would never fly. Sounds like the rumor mill is hard at work.

I live at 1300 meters, does that mean I can't drive any higher up town!

I know it is a big can of worms but seeing that we are our own worst enemies there is no doubt in my mind that it is the wave of the future. Where the boundary should be or will be should be open for debate. Bladed roads, no matter what elevation are not a problem. Mud holes off the bladed roads are fast becoming an issue. Alpine is a huge problem as are the lower areas along creeks and rivers that host the mud holes. Times are changing and destroying the environment is no longer acceptable.

Personally, I think this is in Alberta as we in the east Kootenays have multi restrictions already and quads and dirt bikes are only allowed on bladed roads in most areas. The problem is with enforcement. Where will they get the money to have more dudes/dudettes in the back country with the uniforms and hand guns?

Have to agree with Doug on this one, it'll come eventually, who know with the new technogly the efi systems might be programmed to not run above 1400 metres in a specific GPS area, scary thought!

Ferniesnow is right, the future for us is not pretty. Those of us that have sat on some of the land use committees have seen it coming for a long time.
While the majority of motorized recreationalists are respectfully enjoying the outdoors there are a few abusers that keep bringing negative attention to our sports. While we are out having fun, the ones, ( leaf licking greenies ), that are trying to stop us are hounding Government continually, and we all know about squeaky wheels. Look for some huge changes in access when the new Resource Roads Act and the new ORV regs come out later this year in BC. As stated before, it all comes down to enforcement.

pretty sure they wont be putting fences up all along my property that boarders crownland ... yep Willy will be ok

I agree with you Willy, WildSight nor the government will not put up fences but with a stroke of the pen they can close it. Could be for caribou, wolverine, lynx, winter ungulate range, grizzly bear area, tailed frogs, or some unknown little creature we haven't heard about yet. Getting the picture.

i was talking to the queen again !! and she said its ok to use her land :)

Is that queen the biologist in Cranbrook who wields the big pen. In Middle Kootenay Pass it is the grizzly bears she's concerned with, in the Fording it is sheep, and on the west side of the Elk River it is ungulate winter range and she has put AMA's in them all essentially cutting out motorized vehicles for major times of the year.

So don't be so sure of your Crown Land!

sounds like the problem is more on yer side of the hump !

I have to admit it is, as the Flathead is very dear to their hearts. Planning for the "big Park" down the road has been a battle.

Just prior to the Liberals getting elected, there was a sweeping change put in place by the NDP of the time for motorized back-country use and that had the whole east Kootenays in an uproar. It was reversed by the Liberals and the SRMMPAC was formed.

With the Liberals in deep caca, I can see trouble on the horizon. From the US border in the south to the Elk Lakes Provincial Park in the north and the Alberta border in the east to the Kootenay River system in the west there will be radical changes and WildSight will lead the charge.

They won't stop with a park expansion in the lower Flathead. All the AMA's (Access Management Areas of which there are more in the east Kootenays than anywhere else in BC) can have dates changed by the queen (Biologist as mentioned earlier) in Cranbrook and pretty much how she she feels she wants to swing the pen.

I know this is pretty deep for your one line replies but read it and weep just a little and get your head out of the sand.

Big storm comming yer way Fernie batten down the hatches man !!

Is that with land issues or weather?

You can see a morning post of mine somewhere here about the amounts of rain we have had this spring. It is nearly 3X as much as last year. Better get my grass seed in so it has a good chance to germinate before the heat comes. hahaha

yep ! thanks Old Boy ... still looks like its on yer side of the hump Fernie ??? its too far for all the Albertans to come here ...

LOL - Willy, you clearly have no understanding of the issues you'll be facing in a few years or even some of them now. Years back we used to ride Record Ridge near Old Glory, now the whole area is closed. Across the highway, BRC is tenuring land left right and center. Baldface is closed to you and everyone else during the season. Snowater is now tenured up the ass as well, years back we used it as our personal playground. etc etc etc. See where I'm going with this? You haven't been in the sport that long or your would know lots about the issues that have been in your backyard for a long time, and just how much riding area the kootenays have already lost.

You got some crown land out the back door...whoooopppeeee. I got a couple places of crown to ride in Castlegar just like you, sorry if you thought you were special...point being is that the right to ride in these areas can be taken away from all of us very easily. Keep in mind that the more closures occur everywhere else, the more they force more people into your backyard. Fight closures where you can or you'll wind up losing more than you think. And keep in mind that your backwards attitude makes people less inclined to support our area when you want people to sign a petition to keep kootenay riding areas open.

I'll be on my way back Thurs morning if you want to grab a beer at the Dam Inn.

I think its 1700 not 1400 meters and your still allowed on roads and trails past that elevation in region 8 ( okanogan).
