need help with thieves

Ive been sledding since 95 in Alberta. Not once have I registered a sled.

do you insure it???? thats a nasty fine, and some members here can tell you how bad it can be to not be insured......i figure the 90$ it cost me to do both is well worth it

Contractor at work had trailer 4-sleds and mini stolen over new years. They ready to go sledding in the morning .Was in between ins co. so he did"t have any.1 sled needed parts so he went to his local dealer to see if anybody was ordering told him he had no ins.I guess the parts guy had someone come in for those parts .Let a cop friend know,they tracked the culprit for a week .My friend got his sleds back ,the guys fixed what ever was broken on them and shined them up.He said they looked new again,better than when he had them.The cops ended up finding 20 sleds ,4 trailers, 4 boats.He told me if they put every serial # in the computers it would over load thier system. Most go to a contact in a different province .I guess his parts guy was to be thanked.

Where do you get your info from? Sleds are supposed to be registered in BC. Every sled I've owned over the past twenty years in BC has a yellow plate decal and has to be registered in the owners name. I know some guys who have decided to take a chance and not register them but not a good move if you get stopped at a roadblock and are unable to provide proof of ownership. I've registered two sleds that I purchased that were never registered. To do this you have to take the sled, bill of sale, and a form from the Insurance corporation of BC to the RCMP so they can do a stolen vehicle search. If it comes back stolen you're S.O.L. If the numbers on the motor don't match the numbers on the chassis, you're screwed.
You're maybe thinking about quads. As of right now they don't have to be registered in BC.....but that is supposedly going to change this Summer too. Fricken government has their dam dirty fingers in everything!

Your attitude and actions have the ability to paint us all with the same brush making you as desirable to sled with as the thieves mentioned in this post.

Maybe sometimes its possible that not everything is only about you and how good you are at escaping the law. Maybe sometimes the good of your community could possibly intrude into your consciousness?

Actually they do need to be registered in B.C. I know this because I have been fined for not having a sled registered.

register and insure years ago in bc the baster.. got a tow truck hooked up and took sleds and truck. got the truck back but no sleds no insurance at that time it took me awhile to afford a new sled learnd my lesson dont addvertise them ie on the truck all the time and lock them up i feel for your friend its sick feeling when you reilize there gone . you just want to kill!!!!

I've got a couple buddy's who have the same attitude.... Thats fine, to each their own. I have seen what happens when they finally do catch up with you and I'll take the fine.... by registering I don't even have to worry about that...

Lot of people on here will harp on you for an attitude like that but whatever like I said I've got freinds with the same attitude and it's no skin off my bag....

Me too. All I can say is I was misinformed aswell. Seems to be a common misconception here in Alberta, no registration needed, so my sled is not registered, but will be before I leave today. Sorry if i offended anybody, lived on the coast for 4 years,loved it, most beautiful province(been through 'em all) but got tired of working in the rain and couldn't pass up the money Alberta offered.

No Worries. You're not the first one to post that sleds don't need to be registered in BC. Seems to be a common belief in Alberta for some reason.

Nobody registers in BC because they didn't enforce the rules much. Same with dirt bikes there, nobody has a plate out in the woods.

I heard they are going to be enforcing a lot more.

Or the parts person was in on it too. (Sorry just a little rant) Not saying it's true, just a possibility.

Friend from calahoo ( 14km west of stony plain) had his 08 sno pro m8, white/org crack in hood near vent stolen on jan 20 during day from in front of his house Lives near calahoo meats and calahoo hills golf course. Any info call 780 459 6860 Kenny

out of sight out of mind! I wouldn't even think of leaving my sled in the front yard....I back my truck into the back yard to load so there isn't any tracks out front. I keep it inside my shed when I'm not using it. my yard isnt totaly fenced but my truck fits perfict in between my deck and some trees so I park there at night. Someone would have to make alot of noise to get my sled! It's purty ruff that It's come to this but I live on bar row and people do stupid chit when there drunk! ps I have a Pitbull that's only mean if ur messin with me or my stuff!

The problem is if they want it they will take the truck to. It's less work for that and they can unload where they want.

We should set them up. Put a sled out in someone's yard out by Stony Plain. Just sit in the garage having a few beer, might have to wait awhile...then ambush the buggers when they come. Beat the living snot out of them. Then put a sign on them, "I tried to steal some hard working guys snowmobile". Strip them down and drop them off tied up on some busy street. Or we could just keep running them over with the sled until the cops show up. lol.

BC doesnt you require them with the government however if the police stop you you have to be able to prove proof of owner ship. Dont think for one second the dealer doesn't have your name on file with the SN# either. Is that not the same a registering it some place.

that's what the dog is for!! and I'm not to worried about someone stealing my truck lots of nicer and eayser to steal.(I say at least 5 trucks left running all night on my street alone) plus it's in front of my door and the dog hears everything! soon to be dogs!

I think most of these stolen sleds are parted out. Check kijiji and other sites
for used tracks, tunnels, hoods ect.
I would love to show up at some guys house to buy a track and see parts of my stolen sled. No cops need be involved!
as for registration never put it on my sled but after reading some of the posts
I think it's a small price, I will not carry the plate but will have the paper work at least.
