I would go with the M8 as well,,From guys that have had a 1000 they say they rip but are front end heavy...But your a big guy so maybe it wont bother you with the extra weight....
And yes phone Terry at T&T and see what he says,,

I ride all the time with 2 guys that had/have both those sleds. The 1000 has great power/torque but is heavier and they went thru quite a few belts and a couple of diamond drives but it worked well. The 800 has been trouble free and works very well also. I don't think you'd do wrong with either, but personally i'd take the 2011.

The 2011 M8 and the 07 M1000 have almost exactly the same HP ratings, I've ridden the M8's and will be looking for one of them myself hopefully in the next year or so, go with the 800 Jerome.

If you're gonna stay stock, then go with the M8. But for less that the price difference you can turn that M1000 into a 190hp arm stretcher. I love mine! Adding horsepower just makes the weight difference seem insignificant, and it's not that much heavier anyway. Reliability? Do the Diamond Drive bearing update and the regular maintenance you should be doing anyway and that issue goes away. My motor has been rock solid reliable with new pistons every 4000km's or so. I love this thing.....I may have said that already!

another vote for the M8. The 2007 M1000's in particular had serious issues including but not limited to:

-extremely stiff skid
-wiring harness chafing
-spark plug wires rubbing through on cylinder head
-ECU flashes, bunch of guys melted down and Cat kept screwing with the program
-power valves/servo
-solenoid reverse chitting the bed
-fairly closed running boards build up with snow
-4 post primary clutches blowing up
-chitty(read:soft) camo challenger track unable to capitalize on the 1000's big torque

And that's all I remember from the one the wife ran...lol ;)

I went from a 2002 ZX to a 2010 M8 and there was a world of difference. To Compare the two seems ludacrice to me... but what do I know as I rode a polaris now.

Never had any seat time on an M1000 but those I ride with that have highly prefer the M8.

Yes the m8 seems to be a solid sled anyways. Dad has one a 2011 and hasn't given any issues. Other than high vibration

I only paid GST on my new sled last year. Dealer waved all other fees. Greatly depends on the dealer. Even if they charged your freight, the cost of the sled $9,799 CA plus freight will be obviously higher than $10,000 but it is also two model years newer, so if you tend to keep a sled 5 years, in 5 years it will only be 5 years old vs the Cat that would be 7 years old. Apples to apples I suppose but it could mean it is slightly more desired in the resale world.

Now compare that $9799 to a used 2010 Summit 800 Ptek 154 ($7000-8500) and the 2013 already has a much better track, S-36 front end, new X seat, and DS2 skis which are better than the DS, but I am undecided if they are better than Pilot 6.9's.

$10,000 all fees and taxes in is a hard deal to beat, but there are also incentives on right now for the 2013 Doo's if you are financing. No payments for 6 months and 2 year warranty. What does the Cat come with? Or if you can find a 2012 Summit 800 Ptek 154 they are $2000 off as well. Might take some calling around, but I am sure someone has a 2012 Ptek sitting in their stock.

If you have ridden Cats though and like how it rides for you, then go fo it.

The ptek is carb'd and the etec is direct injected.

Ptek is more mod friendly as you can simply change the jetting. Etek can handle a few mods but at some point will require a bit more expense to make it happen.

If you are used to Cats and their engineering then stick with it.
