Reports have Ryan Newman officially going to Roush's 6 car for next year. Roush has scheduled a news conference for tomorrow to make a driver announcement for 2019. Newman will return to his Ford roots where he ran a number of years for Penske.

ESPN reporting AJ Allmendinger will not be returning to the 47 car next year. Lots of unfilled seats in Cup next year.

Practice 1 at the Roval in Charlotte was a wild one. Multiple cars were involved in crashes during that practice as drivers struggled to race the tricky new road course. Here were the top 10 survivors in first practice: 18-20-22-8-14-42-48-9-1-6

A couple of pretty solid Xfinity drivers made it to the big time today> Ryan Preece will drive the recently vacated 47 car next year and Daniel Hemric, a Childress driver with a lot of talent will take over the 31 car next year as Silly Season carries on.

Final practice is in the books and although Keselowski was the fastest in that session he will start in the back with other notables as a late practice crash will force him to a backup car. Heres your 10 fastest cars: 2-42-78-9-34-18-88-47-6-17. This race is going to be must watch TV as it is almost as much of a wildcard race as Talledega IMO.

Safer to start in the rear.

Let the Turtles take out some cars.

What a finish!

when did NASCAR get windshield wipers?.

Road coarse, if it rains they still race.

One of the best races to watch in a while, lots of action, story lines and plain old fun. I like the roval!

ps. I dont think Jimmie does.

Heres your Chase standings after the cutoff. Jimmie Johnson. Hamlin. Jones and Dillon are out. Jimmies brain cramp in the final chicaine killed his chances of moving on. 18-4-78-2-14-22-41-12-9-42-10-88. Congrats to Bowman for getting that last transfer spot.

New rule changes announced for 2019 today by Nascar. Although a lot of them most people would find insignificant the really big ones that caught my eye was in regards to the restrictor plate races. The 2019 Daytona 500 will stay the same it always has been however the spring Talledega race will showcase the new rule changes for those type of tracks. First off the restrictor plates will be replaced by a smaller tapered spacer that will change engine horsepower from 410hp to roughly 550hp and way more throttle response. To offset the increased speeds that the extra hp will give drivers Nascar has mandated a larger splitter and rear spoiler effectively taking away most of that hp and giving the drivers far more downforce. Drivers seem happy with the changes but we won't know how or if the racing will improve or stay the same. It will be fun to see.
