I took my 850XP into some deep water for its first time yesterday and my buddy wanted to get a video of a waterwheelie, sure enough the quad didn't go anywhere and just revved up. Thats always great, the water was over the tires but it didn't seem like it was getting into the clutch through the vents, the intake vent was high enough, and there was no signs of water going into the clutch intake. My guess is it either seeped through the clutch cover (rather quickly) or went in through the exhaust vent (on the 2011's its routed in a rather silly place right by the exhaust pipe.) I want to put snorkels on my quad rather soon, but is it possible the clutch cover isn't properly sealed?

Have any of you guys had this happen to your 2011 XP?

>> Don't worry about the belt, my buddy and his Brute 750 (with snorkels) pulled me out of the hole and we drained the clutch before we rode back.

Maybe the cover seal is twisted.

Was the drain screw loose?

No, she was on there good, I scoped out the cover and the rubber boots the vents are attached too, no visible signs of leakage. I'll check the bolts when I get home. What could cause it to fill up so fast though?

After changing belts or any other clutch work i do to my outlander. I sometimes fill my belt housing up with water using a garden hose and make sure its not leaking. This works good for checking your snorkle system as well. Good luck

After you do a leak check,,,,

You may have to remove the belt cover and check the seal all around.

I know on my 09 if i hit the water just the right way the water will go right in the belt exhaust kinda sux but even with my belt right full it will still have enough umph to get her self out of the water. past the seat factory intake = bad. I have done tha same as arff and no problems. also a good habit to get into is to change the $16 belt gasket every time you have to cover off or flip it around.

Run a small bead of marine grease in a bead around your gasket when you put the belt cover back on . There is a easier way to snorkel the 850s than most do, i am doing one right now. Remember the belt intake sucks water in , and that includes water splashing about so i am thinking it went in through your belt intake.....

I've heard of doing this, doesn't it get messy in your clutch an collect dust though?

I love my Rincon!

And I love having 70HP! ;)

never had any trouble with the factory covers sealing. I would fill up the housing with water and see if it leeks out anywhere.

I went up riding at my buddies cabin and my belt was wet every other second. Also, I went through a mud hole and I lost my brakes, how darn awesome....

What the heck are you doing to that poor thing never have i had any of these probs with mine.

I rode it in water that wasn't deep enough to get into the clutch, for some reason or another water gets in. For some reason reason my airbox is part of the oiling circuit, and I take it into the mud and my brake lines magically wrapped around my front axle. I've taken it to two dealers to fix the oil in the airbox, and both of them said this was normal... 1/2 of a litre in the airbox....

Was told this could also be because my oil has been over filled. So I decided I won't fill it up. Sure enough, another 1/2 litre. Now my quad only has 1 litre in the engine, and 1 litre in my shop towels.

Go to: Kawasaki.ca
They will have a solution to your problem:d:d:beer::beer:

It would be a lie if I said that hadn't crossed my mind several times.
