At 6500 rpm a Y pipe exhaust spring performs an incredible contortionist move and reachs the steering post 1/2" away.
It’s actually so good. Those springs were able to tap and make that noise. I would imagine in 2 to 10 hours of riding they would’ve broke.

Maybe the springs on all sleds do this, just on the Cat they have something to strum against. Broken exhaust springs are nothing new.

However, there's talk of some of these 858s having out of spec crank runout right out of the box.

The springs are the least of the problem, this sled vibrates so bad that it is gonna shake itself apart, iff you get a chance to ride one you will see, you feel it everywhere, in your hands, feet, its not a good thing. We rode the demo"s last fall and I was shocked how bad it was but we figured they would fix it by the time production rolled out and for the first few hours of the ride it was fine but then it started and just got more intense throughout the day, such a disappointment to me, for that reason alone I would not buy one as well as the many other issues which no one seems to wanna talk about on this forum, 23 k for this sled is a crime and I love Cat and own 2 of them now but looks like it will be a year or 2 for this guy.

Muskoka doesn’t mention the vibrations. You’d think he would. Not saying you are lying but if it’s as bad as you say then why wouldn’t he? Maybe Cat doesn’t care to isolate it because they would add flex?

All sled prices are insane as is the price of pretty much everything else we buy to live.

Pretty sure Matt mentioned the vibration issue, but was focusing on the tinging sound and other issues.

Did the sled get fixed and what was the issue? Anyone know?

In his video he shows there is a rubber plug that fits into the exhaust springs to stop from them vibrating. Apparently one of the springs on the Y pipe lost it and was hitting the steering column. It was vibrating a half inch which is significant

You guys do know race vehicles do not have isolators between the motor or trans to the chassis and are hard mounted?

That’s for a reason, Race vehicles are rebuilt often.

If the springs are dancing that bad the harmonics in that sled must be bad.

I’m aware of that. Still not a deal breaker for me if I was buying a new sled. If it was a daily driver vehicle for sure it matters. Nut and bolt checks will be regular on the 858.

I’ve owned a lot of cat sleds, stockers, mod sleds and everything in between. They all vibrate more than other brands and bolt checks after every trip are mandatory lol

Rode my dad’s 858 riot and it doesn’t vibrate any more than my alpha 800 turbo, or my 18 mountain cat. I think your just seeing red about the 858 and your pissy about it
