I don’t look at it as being stubborn. We are "set in our ways for a reason” and that was usually determined by a learning curve that we made it through in days past. If we could, we would probably do it all over again with a little tweak here and there to change the end result but our old ravaged bodies just don’t have that level of commitment any more.
This is how age is determined. if you look ahead, you are young, if you look at today, you are middle aged and if you look back, you are old. Doesn't matter what you drivers licence says. My point is if we don't try new things we don't give ourselves a chance to learn something new. Sure I have had egg on my face many times for thinking I was right, from experience, but keeping an open mind can result in a whole new perspective. I was sure I needed my 174 for the deep days and now after riding my 2023 165 Matryx, the 174 will be sold. I had a 2021 165 Khaos previously and it was not even close to the 2023. I can only think the updated harder durometer track and the slash tunnel made the difference. Skidoo had more positve changes than that for the G5 over the G4 so I expect all a guy would need for that is a 165 too.

Lol……that’s one positive way of looking at it. But when you come home from work limping from just being on your knees changing soaker pads in compressors and need to get out of your truck slowly to make sure they are ready to go. I don’t think bow ties and hopovers on days off are the best way to make sure I will be ready for my next 8 days on shift. 😬😬😜

I think I need to take a day to rest after just watching today!
That's what I always think when I watch any of the talented young fellas making it look so easy. Every re-entry I have ever done was due to not turning out in time and gravity taking over from there. Combine that with being too stupid to let go of my sled for the fear of it ghost riding to it's doom..........BOOM; nailed myself a re-entry. :)

I know the sleds have come a looong way in the last 25 years but man it seems like the skill level and athletic ability of the riders has grown exponentially! I think some of these young guys could do a back flip on a dishwasher now!

There's a lot of things I would do with a dishwasher. Backflips weren't even on my list🤣

In all seriousness though, it's a lot of learned skill with these new machines. A guy like Matt doesn't even work out in the off season. Dozens of days on the snow each season, highly capable machines, and friends with a mindset to push the limit is what it takes.

A lot of old timers on here would be riding at this level back in their prime if they had these machines.
