O yes Martins trys to stay in front they also try to bully other companies from selling clothing at the sled show. Has anyone noticed that in the past next to no one has sold Klim at the show, thats thanks to Martins. They didnt want RMX selling Klim because it takes from there sales, slightly understandable but other peeps have to make some money.

Thanks, Martins are great marketers....I highly doubt that they do not make money on what they sell. They might low-ball a few items to get you in their store.......You might call it bullying....I call it creative marketing.
There are thousands of potential buyers at this trade show....if you can get some of them to believe that the product they want/need is a better deal from your business (whether it be a cheaper price or better service....), then your business grows. If you need to put up a few lost-leaders to intice a buyer to dealing with you....then do it.

Jeez, I read all the time how Terry @ T&T in Bonnyville has the best prices out there.......do you think he is bullying the other dealers who sell Arctic Cat......nope, just some creative marketing, good prices, great service and the rest just happens.......

Not sure what you mean by they didn't want RMK to sell Klim.......but if me as a vendor can convince a wholesaler to keep me as their only retailer in the area.(ie if Martins tried to convince Klim to have only them as a retail outlet).....that's another great marketer in action....its called business.

If you are the only person carrying a hot selling item.....good money can be made. If 15 vendors are selling the exact same item.......margins are minimal.

sorry links, dealers are there to make money, period. not so you have somewhere to go. what do you think these shows are for, to save you money, sorry your in dream land. no one cares about you, me or anyone else, you can lose money for so long , so get a reality check. the show only will last as long as exhibitors are making money, and when they are not it will shut down, as in calgary. why were you not there eh. get real dude, quit whining.

imdoon....you really don't understand the value of a trade show......of course the vendor must make money to stay in business. Do the vendors expect to make money at a trade show....no, break even at best. But....they are there to win you over as a customer and have you start dealing or continue dealing with them.
Do you think Terry @ T&T (sorry Terry, I keep using you as a benchmark because I respect your way of doing business)....Do you think Terry @ T&T made any money selling the SledBettes those sleds last year.....highly doubt he made a penny, but the advertising he got will bring business his way for some time....and that's what it is all about!! It takes true effort to win a customer......not luck.
They hope to break even at best at the trade show and hope that the payback will be in new body's entering their building with cash in hand and ordering on their mind.

And, Mr Imdoon, I DO believe most dealers care about me, about you and all their customers. You obviously have not been in business becuase you would know that a vendor does not get rich selling you one item and never coming back, he gets rich selling you a lifetime of items, a lifetime of service, and that is why he will take care of you....because it aslo helps himself which of course is why he is in business in the 1st place.

And last, not whining dude....I am real and no, I have no intention of supporting the Calgary show.....if everyone has your don't care attitude, then this show too will fail. But fortunately, there are many out there who do care and will find a way to make it happen. I know you would rather see a centralized Red Deer show (you wrote about it in previous threads) and I, for one hope that never happens. This is why I am so vocal about the hint of dealers cutting back on supporting the main event....The Edmonton Sled Show. It did not become the premium sled show in western Canada by fluke, it took much effort by the dealers investing in it and the customers flock to this venue by the thousands.......what took years to build could easily and quickly dwindle without their continued support......you brought up one yourself.....Calgary.....Think about it.
Thanks.....I knew I would get heat for my comments....but I think I have a valid point

well if you have all the answers, you should be at the sled show with a booth just meeting and greeting all the people until ya run out of money, maybe you have a new way to get er done, good luck, let me know how ya make out.

you may be the one who reinvents the wheel.

oh as you may not know, trade shows are all about sales, one way or another.
maybe do your homework first.

Thanks for your comment Modman. I will ask Bruce the next time I see him what their thoughts were....most likely cost of the booth. Yes, it is convenient that they are only minutes away from the show but not so convenient if all the dealers start doing this.....why have a show then???

...same thing. ...Call bullch!t all you like......if you won't take the time to drive to the show now....will you take the time if the show gets smaller when more dealers drop out???.....of course not......neither will many others and THAT is my point.

No, I won't drive to Edmonton which is twice the distance for me comparatively from Calgary, since I live on the very south edge of town. Red Deer is a good 2 hr drive alone, but I would drive to a show there, I have friends etc in the central region and would be willing to make a weekend of it. I don't know why a central show would not work, other than it means you would have to drive farther which is probably your biggest beef with the location...... I'd rather save $100 on fuel and spend it at my local dealer than driving all over the place trying to get a cut rate on product X anyway.

Which is the ironic part of your post I find - you want local dealers to support the show so that you can get a deal on something. Instead of forking out the $300-$500 for the drive here, food etc for your family of 6, why are you not supporting your local dealer directly and putting that money in his pocket instead of trying to save a buck at the sled show (which likely costs you just as much in food/lodging/travel)? You can't go to a sled show, buy a bunch of marked down gear from other dealers, then go back to your local dealer and expect him to give you discounts on oil/belts/whatever all season because you are a loyal customer......You said it yourself, Dealers care about you and want a lifelong customer - do you really think they honestly believe that you are looking for a lifelong relationship as a customer at the sled show? C'mon - again YOU said it - you are looking for deals! You want to have your cake and eat it too I think.

Your first post makes some pretty big accusations about MM using the show to piggy back their advertising for an open house, without a real basis for your accusations, other than your opinion that they are not supporting the show, and from here on out, its all doom and gloom, and that the show is destined to fail because one dealer didn't show up........i hear violins playing.......

Maybe they offered up their spot so that some dealer from Calgary could have a booth because there is no Calgary show this year. WTF do I know, nothing.... but I know that its not as big a deal as you make it out to be. MM is doing what they think is best for their business. Instead of looking into your crystal ball and predicting a future that hasn't happened yet, maybe you should just stop by their open house and see what's what, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Keep your smart ass comment to yourself or call them directly if you have a problem. Otherwise stay off the thread!! Mods really need to come clean this up.

You know I wasnt going to go to MM but now after wasting so much time reading this "crap" I think I'm going to stop by after the show :d .
Last year I went to the show and its nice to look at a sled I'm never going to have, but the stuff I wanted to buy and asked for at the show I ended up at MM and SS to get what I wanted anyway because they cant stock their whole store at the show. For the most part I find the show a place for the dealers to bs about what they are doing and try to get you to come to their store. MM is just added to that. I'll bet a linksys a 8 dollar show beer they sell more out of their BBQ then the show. And they are still at the show! Other that videos and a little gear I dont see people walking around the show carrying their new 174 3'' track and a big bore in the other hand. Sorry sledderdoc I added to the problem:beer:

I like going to the show to get some specail deals....who doesn't? But I reallyy like seeing what is out there. I really like seeing other brands / makes from shops that I normally do not go to. I didn't know who "Specialty Sled" was a few years ago...met him at the show and ended up going to his shop and supporting his business a bit.
