Looks to me like you guys cut back on the size of your booth at the show and are using the free publicity (of the snowmobile show) to get people in your shop :nono: .......You know, that if the exibitors don't want to support the show then the costs for everyone else go higher......already cost me $15.00 each to get in plus probably 12 for parking.I hope I am wrong in my accusation (and am ready to take the heat for it) but judging by the exibitor map, MM's booth is MUCH smaller this year.......:confused:Please prove me wrong MM.:( Otherwise....shame on you. I for one, will not have the time to visit your store location when I drive into Edmonton for the show. I expect ALL LOCAL DEALERS to give 100% to their local show. I am paying a large dollar for me & my family of 6 to be there....and I expect all the "bang" possible for my buck. Don't cheap out at your local show..... I am looking at spending about $200. just to be there (admision, parking & food/bev) plus wahtever else we spend in the exhibitors booths....last year was close to $4000.I may just make a point of NOT shopping at your booth (unless of course you can prove to me that you did not downsize this year) You are one of the top snowmobile shops in the Edmonton area and I for one, would expect you to invest heavily in your local show. Many people are travelling a great distance to see this show. We out of towners, depend on you dealers to "give it your all" at the show.
You obviously don't have a clue what a booth is worth one about the size of their previous one is about the same as a new e tec pretty hard to make much profit like that plus all the time preping for the show I personally think what ever they or any other person does is there own dam choice

Sounds to me like a guy who can't afford to be in the sport. Trust me I know the promoter from our dealings with him at the Calgary Show. You will stay pay the big ticket price even if there are 50 more dealers at the show.

Thanks but I do have a clue what it costs...in fact the whole damn price list is on the ASA website plus all the labour to set it up. I realize it takes many man-hours to do this but I also am attending the show for one evening. I do not have the time to stay for the weekend so I expect the dealers (especially the local dealers) to be there with the best damn display possible. What is the reason for having a trade show if not to get buyers in to see what you sell....

If all the dealers just put in a minimal dispaly and advertise an open house on the same weekend....the show will die.

:confused:They still are having a booth just not bringing a whole bunch of sleds. There still having a booth so people can still stop by and buy stuff. If you wanna see all the custom sleds and what new things their working on then stop by the shop, its only 5 mins from the show. I agree with MM why pay so much to display 4 sleds and then everyone bitches cause product costs are up! What do you expect them to do go in the hole cause if they dont sell enough product (mark up costs) to pay for the booth! They wouldnt be in business for to long then, I would rather them take a smaller booth and be around so if i need work done on my sled their still around. Alot of dealers team up with the manufactures booths cause the costs are so high.
I agree the cost to park and get in to the show is high but now who is making all the money off the little guys, maybe he is the person you should be bitching about. That is just my 2 cents anyways.

Thanks. I did expect to get some heat form my comments. I am not sure how my afforability of being in the sport applies but whatever. I do not have bottemless pockets although I was able to afford to buy a new 2011 last year with no financing and I have a couple of older 5 year old machines that my family and I have fun on.

I also know Mountain Magic...I know one of the owners quite well....They run a great business and I am not slamming their company. I am only concerned of their timing. If more and more dealers decide to downsize their display/booths, the show will slowly die. Case in point....the Edmonton Farm & Ranch show that is held in the spring at Northlands' (yah I know it's not sledding but its a good comparison). This used to be a premium farm show that was well attended by local dealers as well as many farmers. A few of the majors pulled out or downsized and within a few years more & more dealers decided that the traffic was not there and the investment into the show not was worth it....today thet Farm & Ranch show is a total joke and a waste of time and Red Deer has taken over as the venue to go to if you want to see farm equipment.

I would prefer not to be forced to drive to Red Deere or Calgary to see a sled show. Do you think if more and more dealers downsize there booths and have dealer promo's on the same weekend that our Premium show will not be affected??? Of course it will! It might take a year or three but without the dealers fully supporting this venue...it will die.

I expect the dealers (especially the local dealers) to "bring it all" to this show. I do not have time to travel around the city to visit each dealer because he is having an open house that weekend. We are travelling in for this show and travelling home the same day. We, like many people, are busy and cannot spend a whole weekend.

I am not bitching about the costs.....ok we all bitch about how expensive things are (dealers & customers). Edmonton has the best sled show around and without the vendors supporting it, the customer's support will slowly fade........

Thanks, I realize they are only minutes away. You are from the Fort, 20 minutes away, so you probably have the time to go to the show and also go back to Edmonton to visit the open house(s). I and many others who travel a greater distance do not so we would prefer that the dealers promote themselves at one venue.
And, of course, if affordabilty is an issue, I would prefer they stay in business, but what a better place to promote your business than a premium sled show? Every company, big & small look for ways to save where they can.

And perhaps Northland's needs to be open minded about venue costs also. They were a major factor to killing the Farm & Ranch show....hopefully this show survives.

hmm, ya sleepin on the sofa lately? mr cranky pants, how big of a booth are they required to have, seems to be bang for the buck, i'm sure it costs them way more than your "maybe spending $4000". if it don't work out, they will make changes for next year. seems like there are a few dealers doing the same.

Thanks and as a matter of fact I had a great sleep on my couch yesterday afternoon! Were you peeking through my windows?? :nono: Sorry if I am sounding cranky just concerned. If you see other dealers cutting back then you are actually helping my argument......I saw this in the ag industry a few years ago....a few dealers cut back, a few more follow the trend and pretty soon people stop attending and then the show becomes a flop.

I only pointed out M Magic because I noticed that one, but if you see more vendors who are cutting back.....then maybe you should be raising the fed flag also. This slippery slope can happen faster than you think. Without dealers supporting the show, people will stop attending.....I don't want that to happen. I would like to see this show grow.....take up the whole Agricom (or whatever Northland calls it now) not just a couple of halls.

Mountain magic had a great booth last year with there sled display. In fact one of the responders on this thread bought one of the display sleds and there was a lot of pictures / talk after the fact. Mountain magic couldn't have asked for better free advertising because of that one sled.

Each vendor has to weigh the expense with how much they get back......but me as a cutomer also have to weigh the costs of attending and if the vendors are cutting back, then we will all lose.

I recall last year, there was a vendor who decided to not take part in the show but have a weekend open house/ sale at their store........they got a LOT of negative publicity for it....

I have never been to MM's shop but I think I might have to go just to say good job with the show this year!

So if you know one of the owners of MM quite well, then feel free to call up your buddy and ask him why he is holding the open house on the same weekend, instead of bitching about it on the internet, otherwise I call bullsh!t and say you don't know him that well. I think its a good idea for the MM open house, they are not that far away and the show will pull people in from out of town, then they can come by the shop and get some of the savings realized by MM not having a huge booth and paying for the floor space. so many cheap azz people go to the show expecting huge savings on everything they buy, the dealers are already cutting their profit margin by having a big booth and moving all their staff to the show, now they gotta cut further by giving stuff away.....some people just window shop and then go buy online anyway if it's not "half of retail" at the show. Hard to make a buck when the real estate to have a booth is too pricey and everyone wants a deal.

I say fawk the big city's and the big coliseums, I don't care if they have it at the Saddledome or in a major urban center. I love sledding but at $1.13/L for fuel, I really need to justify driving to Edmonton on my own to buy stuff I probably don't need. My opinion is hold it in the Red Deer area like they do Haydays, nice and central for everyone, have it out in a field somewhere during better weather once the farmer cuts his hay crop and before he breaks the field for next season. $10 a spot for a 20x20 in the Swapmeet, $20 entrance fee per carload, you cover your costs from that, dealers get in free. If dealers have any used parts, they sell them in the swapmeet too and have to buy a booth. The dealers get a break by not shelling out anything for a spot, most of them have enclosed trailers so that is their generic "booth", if its raining you keep things inside the trailer, if not, put up a little awning and sell stuff in the sunshine. Generally late Sept is very nice in Alberta. More deals to be had when all the costs are kept down for the dealers, and people are willing to spend more if their admission price is lower. Win-Win for both. Some of the best deals and sleds I have been to were when AGRO had the Calgary Club swapmeet here in Calgary in the back 40 at their shop.

Thanks for your comment Modman. I will ask Bruce the next time I see him what their thoughts were....most likely cost of the booth. Yes, it is convenient that they are only minutes away from the show but not so convenient if all the dealers start doing this.....why have a show then???

Why does Terry from T&T pack up a bunch of stuff and drive 3 hours to be in this show???? Talk about expenses. Don's Speed parts....same thing. Why?? Why do they come so far??? All I said is that the local dealers need to put all their effort into the local show or the show will die a slow death because there will be no reason for the thousands to attend. And yes, I look for deals at the show....who doesn't. Martin's makes a killing on helmets & clothing because they make the effort to get the product out front where the people are. I am not a Ski Doo customer, so I have never been to Martin's showroom but we dropped a few hundred on Klim clothing last year.
The sled show get me into stores that I otherwise would not or have not heard of. If Mountain Magic is big enough that they don't need the exposure....alrighty then. My concern from my 1st post and I am repeating it again is without local support the show will not survive. And NO...having a central show in Red Deer is not a win win for everyone!!! But maybe a venue other than Northland's is in the future....not sure who else can handle the logistics involved but I do know that without delaer support the show is destined to fail.
Call bullch!t all you like......if you won't take the time to drive to the show now....will you take the time if the show gets smaller when more dealers drop out???.....of course not......neither will many others and THAT is my point.

O yes Martins trys to stay in front they also try to bully other companies from selling clothing at the sled show. Has anyone noticed that in the past next to no one has sold Klim at the show, thats thanks to Martins. They didnt want RMX selling Klim because it takes from there sales, slightly understandable but other peeps have to make some money.

sorry links, dealers are there to make money, period. not so you have somewhere to go. what do you think these shows are for, to save you money, sorry your in dream land. no one cares about you, me or anyone else, you can lose money for so long , so get a reality check. the show only will last as long as exhibitors are making money, and when they are not it will shut down, as in calgary. why were you not there eh. get real dude, quit whining.
