I am faced with a bit of a dilemma, the new sled i bought is running the stock head with rk tek pistons and a boondocker nitrous system, i am wanting to put the rk tek high compression head on as well running 13:1. Though with a higher compression and nos i am worried about detonation.

My question is this, if you had the choice of running stock head with nos or high compression head with no nos, which would you choose and why?

On this one I have to agree with freak as nos is not a continuous thing it makes it hard to clutch it so you pull top rpm and don't over rev when the happy button is pushed.

what are you going to be using the sled for? hillclimbing, boondocking, trees, all of the above?

hypnotoad hillclimb and boondocking.

clutch set up is strong, dj clutch kit, clickers, floating secondary with better spring. so i don't think clutching is the issue, it more the detonation that i an thinking about.

oler1234 are you running rk tek dropin kit? how much are you giving it each shot of nos?

i have read the thred talking about nos in revs, and it seems if you tune it right it can be a safe and fun option, though its the mix with the high compression head i am worried about. kelsey at rk tek said that there are alot of people that have done it, but i am weary...

Really? I thought you knew everything about everything???

Thats why he's saying to teach him how to clutch for nos. You can't clutch for nos (unless your drag racing). Your sled would work like a total POS, just to compensate the 5 seconds at a time you use it.

so the general consensus would be that the high compression head without the nos would be the best and most reliable way to go for more power as clutching/over revving is a big issue with nos (regardless of having clickers)?????

There's nothing wrong with Nos. It's a popular and easy way to get extra power when you need it. Clutching isn't an issue with Nos (if you understand what I mean by that), you just have know when to use it.

clickers do not make a diference for clutching for NOS. they only make it easier/faster to adjust clutching for changing conditions i.e. elevation, temp etc. makes a 5 minute job into a 30 second job. i think what he was trying to say is because of the rapid spike in power you are going to over rev when you hit the happy button, if your sled is clutchd right to run good without the happy button, if you clutch the sled to run good with the happy button depressed it will run like chit when your running without the NOS. you might be able to find an ok medium but either way it will run like chit either with the button depressed or without. best bet is to stay away from the NOS and just run the head. if still not enough juice drop the money and turbo, will be wayy less headaches in the end.

k here's the scenario.....Your pulling a loooooong hill you notice that your sled is dropping RPM'S and you cant seem to get the power back (maybe you have no room to side hill). This is what the little red button is for when properly used all nos will do is give you that instant power when you need it you push the button and your motor starts to gain RPM again you make it to the top of the hill BOOOYEA!!!!

If your using it for this scenario you dont have anything to worry about because you shouldnt be over revinge (you can *pretty much* leave your clutching alone the way it is now) . All your simply doing is giving your motor a kick in the ass to get back the power is has already lost by the deep snow and crazy angle.
Now lets say your the "special" kind of sledder .....Your racing your buddys in a wide open field and your at WOT 9400RPM (or what ever your sled may tach out at). You cant loose so you figure im out of here and you lay on the button .......

BOOM!!!!! you just over revved and toasted your motor you cant clutch for that, thats just plain stupidity.

and theres more rules for grass dragging/drag racing but since i belive that you are wanting to know more about the mountain riding i wont get into that.

there you go freak you just learned something. I plan to be running a new boss nos system which injects race fuel in with the nitrous so you dont have to worry about detination and your able to hold the button as long as you want as long as your not overrevving.

No, I think he already knew that, the comment was how do you clutch for nos. He originally said you can't, you just confirmed what he said I believe. I agree with u, clutch it correctly, use nos to get rpms back to power band. The race gas/nos mix sounds interesting, but u r gonna need a big bottle to have fun all day.

Pretty expensive to if you are going to use it all day as a 10lb bottle is about 130.00 to fill. Less if you have your own fill station. Turbo is way easier to clutch and set up and once you join the world of boost there is no looking back!!!!
