Well having my father live north of Puerto Vallarta about an hour for over 12yrs, they decided to move last year to Arizona. They said that driving around to other cities became too much of a risk, and even more so when they had to drive back up into the USA. Even when we went down to visit it got kind of scary, there was a couple times when we were stopped by the military and dad gave them a little $$ to let us on our way,.. I couldn't imagine if we were stopped by the drug cartel..

We have no inclination of visiting Mexico again.

We go quite often, and here is my take : The people in general are some of the hardest working, most humble people i have ever met. We (Canada) could learn a little about customer service from them. Sure there are bad dudes down there, are we so arrogant to think we don`t have them here or in the US...?
MOST of the trouble people get in to , is when you are doing something you should not be doing. Either in our country ,or their`s.There are plenty of places that can get you in trouble in Edmonton ,as well as Cancun !! For the amount of people who go down there, and party like they never would in Canada (IE: all inclusive) i think they do rather well........
A bunch of us will be enjoying Cabo this year, again, and i know it will be +30 and sunshine............

unfortunately Mexico is not the only country with a garbage problem. "most" sun belt countries have the same issue with garbage. Try going to S.America or S.E. Asian countries if you think Mexico is bad.

Yeah, I wouldn't be touring around much, stay put in the resort areas. Innocents routinely get caught in the crossfire, averaging over 8,000 murders per yr,... it happens. ( I wonder how many people are "missing" )

:yikes:
The Mexican government last issued figures in 12 January 2011. Its database said 34,612 people had been killed since December 2006, including suspected drug gang members, members of the security forces and those considered innocent bystanders. It is now estimated that some 40,000 people have died during the nearly five years of Mr Calderon's presidency.

you gotta wonder how many lives have been lost by drug overdose, war on crime and murder thru those wads of cash

Close to 40,000 since 2006 they are saying. What bothers me is they say the drug lords are feeling pressured by the government forces and the concern is they will start targeting tourists as a way to get back at the establishment. Thats not good for the tourist business and the drug lords know it.
